This was a beautiful hotel, we were not booked to stay here we were travelling around Ireland and were supposed to stay at the Carlton Hotel Buncloudy. When we knew that we would not make it that far that night we rang to cancel and told them where we were so they rang the Carlton Castletroy and transferred our booking which was amazing as we did not need to go looking for another hotel with 3 rooms and it did not cost us anything extra which was great.
Just driving up to the hotel was amazing the rooms were lovely and the breakfast was great. We were all on the same floor and near each other. Rooms were clean and staff were lovely. Would definatly stay there again.

My advice is skip staying here and just visit the restaurant.
The hotel is old and dated and needs a refurb badly and a good clean. We had to move rooms because of the noise and in both rooms the mini bar was mysteriously missing. Beds were ok but not very warm or inviting. Water too hot or too cold. Pool and sauna area was a joke. Really filthy and smelly, a public pool would have been nicer. Really disappointing. Staff were nice but the hotel really isnt a four star, maybe in the 1970s it was 4star and it hasnt been updated or maintained since.
The restaurant really was the best bit. Amazing food. I would recommend going here for a meal.

Have stayed twice on business at the Castletroy Park in the last month I now know that the difference between an executive and standard room appears to be two bottles of water and a bathrobe...

It's fine as a place to lay your head and nice to have wifi included. But it is all a bit schizophrenic: the rooms are bland and dated; the restaurant a riot of about three different eras of interior design and the bar all dark wood and bar-like. But the (bar) food is good and it seems a popular place for meeting up. And it's friendly and not too expensive for what it is. And what it is is a slightly upmarket - albeit worn - Travel Inn or Holiday Inn Express with a little bit more character.

The bathrooms do seem to suffer from the curse of what I always thought was British plumbing but seems to apply equally to this Irish hotel: shower water freezing or scalding. And if there's an event on in the ballroom try to get a room at the back since the smoking area at the front of the hotel gets noisier as the night wears on...

At the end of the day it's really just a bit average.

we stayed over Easter weekend as a group doing a training camp in UL. the hotel was excellent and amazing value for money - breakfast great; pool/gym/sauna facilities so handy; bar food and service great; location super for UL.
