“Would recommend highly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

Great hotel with friendly staff. Excellent food and nice old school feel. Loved the aeronautical theme. Rooms were large and well furnished. Only small gripe (and it is small) is that the bar was stocked with very basic, uninteresting beers. Bit of choice would be nice for the discerning drinker. Other than that the hotel is excellent

“Fantastic Full Service Hotel near the Shannon Airport”

Cozy, warm and comfortable describe this lovely, two story hotel located in Shannon Town, Co. Clare, Ireland. If you're looking for delicious food, good drinks in a nicely decorated bar, friendly service with a smile and a good night's sleep, look no further than the Oak Wood Arms Hotel. The hotel has plenty of free parking and is just minutes away from the Shannon International Airport. Susan at reception could not be more accommodating! I have been staying here since 2001 and will return many more times in the future! Thank you for knowing how to treat the customer and for doing your jobs so well!

Room Tip: Upgrade to a suite if possble to feel like royalty! The four poster beds are so comfy!

“Fantastic value, great hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 July 2011

We recently stayed a couple of nights at this cosy and comfortable hotel. It was a great starting point for visiting Clare and Galway and great for us as it is so close to Shannon airport and our flight home. We were blessed with good weather and the clare coast was beautiful. There is a good little attraction called Bunratty castle nearby which we went to. Good shopping there too. Our room was quiet, spotless and comfortable and the staff were so friendly and helpful. But our fave bit was the food. It is really of exceptional quality and value. For some reason, we hadn’t been looking forward to our Irish trip as a gastronomic delight, but we were delightfully proved wrong here. The brekkies were great, but very filling if like us you tend to try it all! We also spent an eve in the lively hotel bar, which seems very popular with the locals. Really very hard to fault, everything just felt very easy, with lashings of Irish charm. We would definitely stay there again and perhaps explore other parts of that region as 2 days is not enough.

“Inexpensive and close to the Shannon airport”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 July 2011

This hotel is the closest thing you'll find in Ireland to an old American motel. It is definitely a little tired, and the olde worlde wood trim throughout looks rather silly, but it is a perfectly adequate place to stay if you have an early morning flight.

The room was large with lots of storage space and the most modern TV set up we had our entire trip (movies on demand and video games!). There was coffee/tea making equipment but no in room safe.

The beds were rather hard, so I'm glad we weren't staying more than 1 night. Normally the place would have been quiet, unfortunately we were there on a Saturday night and there was a 200 guest wedding on premises. We had to fight through these guests to get a pint at the bar. We actually had a good laugh people watching (you would not believe some of the ridiculous outfits, but that's another story). The music from the wedding party was loud and we had trouble sleeping until it finally stopped at about 2 a.m. I advise weekend guests to inquire about large parties booked for that date.

I should mention that very close by the hotel is the Sky Court shopping center with 60 outlet stores. It was already closed by the time we arrived, but may be worth a look. If you need an ATM there's one on the outside of the mall near the Texaco station. I'm not sure of the hours of that place, but the gas station next to the hotel is open 24 hours so is convenient for last minute rental car fill ups. The drive from the hotel to the airport is less than 10 minutes.

We had dinner at Gallagher's restaurant in nearby Bunratty, and would highly recommend it. (JP Clarke's next door is a little more casual). We enjoyed some of the best food of our trip.

“Lovely, and close to Shannon Airport”

We stayed for our last night in Ireland, as the hotel was very convenient to Shannon Airport. We thought that the hotel was lovely, and very comfortable. The rooms were clean and large. The hotel itself is large, and does seem somewhat dark due to the wood everywhere. There was a nice lounge just outside our rooms, which was convenient for our group to sit and relax together. There was fantastic wifi available, the best found on our trip. There is airline memorabelia throughout the hotel, which is interesting to read. There were also several airline staff staying there, which we took as a good sign. Overall, I would absolutely recommend staying here.
