“A great place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 September 2011

Mary gave us such a warm welcome on our arrival, along with much appreciated tea and scones. Our room was a spacious, modern family room (there were 3 adults in our party) and was very clean. The beds were very comfortable, there were plenty of towels available in the bathroom, and the room was lovely and warm, which wasn't the case in a couple of other B&B's we stayed in. The breakfast was delicious and cooked to order.

Mary even knew some of the people that my Mum knew, when she lived in Ireland as a child 60 years ago, so hearing about them was an unexpected bonus for my Mum.
I would definitely stay here again.

“Fantastic!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2011

What a lovely place to stay. Out of the city with beautiful views. Mary made us a cup of tea on arrival and supplied muffins, she is a great lady. Hospitality here is bountiful, rooms are great. Lots of things to see in the area. I will definitely be going back there.

“nice stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 June 2011

we stayed here our first night in Ireland. This was a nice B and B somewhat outside of Kilkenny. We arrived earlier than planned (before the room was ready). Mary gave us muffins and tea and let us store our bags while we went to get some lunch to eat. our room was large and clean. out of the 7 different places we stayed this bed was the most comfortable for me. Also this was one of two places that actually had washcloths to use. So just for that fact this place gets an extra thumbs up. This place is also pretty close to the town of Kells (within 3 miles). There is a really great ruin of a priory there that is a must see. Breakfast the next morning was good. Mary was also kind enough to take us on a tour of the ruin on her property. Also a little side note, this b and b is attached to a nursery that apparently grew the primroses given to Michelle Obama during a visit to Ireland. I would recommend this place to stay. It's out of the big city of Kilkenny, but really not that far of a drive. This was a nice introduction to smaller towns for us in Ireland.

“Delightful Gardens and Large Room”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 June 2011

Mary and John Fitzgerald are warm hosts. John makes some of best brown bread that we had in Ireland. Mary's breakfast was fit for a king and sustained us until supper. The room was large, quite comfortable, and overlooked a lovely garden. It was a nice quiet location which offered a relaxing place to stay. We enjoyed talking with Mary and appreciated her taking the time to lead us on a tour of their son's impressive greenhouse operation. This is a very friendly, interesting family.

“Great location, lovely proprietors and meals all first class, better than home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 November 2010

My wife and I had two fantastic nights at this B & B, our first B & B experience. The room and beds were great as was the friendliness shown by the proprietor and her husband. We were made welcome, I thought I was actually in the Will, I was that comfortable and felt as though our parents were looking after us. (no pun intended).

The B&B is on a no longer working dairy farm, however, it is now a vast Nursery, with Igloo's replacing the cow sheds and plants replacing the cows and stock.

The area in general is quite handy to whatever you wish to visit or see in the Kilkenny County and the local Pub just down the road serves magical meals, the regulars being just as friendly and the Publican sings for you if you mention Mary & John Fitzgerald sent you, from the Oldtown Farmhouse.

Ireland, what more can anyone say. This is one B&B I would place on my list.
