“Great Hospitality”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 June 2009

We have just stayed two nights at Lichfield House and were very impressed by the warmth and hospitality of the owners. Marie and Pat were very helpful, even picking us up from the train station and we felt very comfortable during our stay. Our room was spotless and there is a big garden to relax in. The house is a five minute drive from town and there is not a footpath to walk into town, so it would be practical to have a car.

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay, and definitely recommend Lichfield House to other travellers.

“very friendly, would stay again”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2008

Myself and my friends have just returned from staying in Lichfield house on Sat 27th, we arrived earlier than expected and were made feel very welcome upon arriving we were shown to our triple room which was of good size with tea & coffee facilites, the room was spotless and the beds were most comfortable our room could not be faulted. The following morning at breakfast we were looked after very well, the hot breakfast tasted very nice, extra tea and toast was put on our table without us having to ask, also we were allowed to check out late which is always an added bonus. Overall myself and my friends enjoyed staying in this b&b, I have been to Kilkenny many times and I would stay in this b&b on my next visit.

“Rude owner--not a good start to our trip”

Lichfield House was our first B&B stop on our tour of Southern Ireland. After being lost on the backroads of the Wicklow Mountains all day, we called the B&B, lost at a nearby gas station. The owner told my husband that the policy was to check in by 7pm (it was 7:50pm when we called). He apologized, explained we'd been lost all afternoon and had no cell phones that worked in Europe. Also, we weren't aware of the policy because it was in the fine print on the website we booked through (Gulliver.com). She wouldn't give him directions and said if we weren't there in 10 minutes she was locking the door and wouldn't let us in.

We found Lichfield House and before the owner would let us in, she made us stand outside the door and again lectured us on the policy. After we apologized profusely, again, she let us in. She asked if we'd eaten and when we said no, she told us that was too bad because everything was closed. She recommended two fast food restaurants in town that might be able to serve us.

The room was small and the bathroom was tinier. In the morning, we just wanted to get out of there. While paying, she asked if we were dissatisfied with our stay. I said we were tired and just wanted to leave. She *again* proceeded to lecture me on calling ahead to the next B&B to let them know that we'd be there--whether on time or late.

The only thing about this place that made me the tiniest bit happy was being able to give the dog a much-appreciated belly rub before leaving. NOT a good way to start our tour of Ireland.

“Obnoxious Owner with v poor customer service”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 May 2007

We attempted to book this place online, we paid the deposit had it all settled and were ready to plan our holiday when we get a phone call from the owner to say simply that she was going to a wedding that weekend and we couldn't stay...and that was it no question of giving us a refund of our deposit. As far as she was concerned we could sort it out ourselves despite the fact that she was at fault, she had allowed her guesthouse to be advertised and booked online for those dates.

When we returned the call she was obnoxious, rude and unhelpful on the phone. If this is how we were treated before we even arrive, we can only leave it up to your imagination what the stay may have been like. If you are considering staying at Lichfield house then I would highly reccommend finding somewhere else if this is the kind of treatment you would receive.

“Great Space to Relax”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 August 2006

This B&B is just outside of the city of Kilkenny, so you will need a car to drive in, but the space was welcome after driving the wild Irish roads. Rooms are very clean and hostess was very helpful. We especially enjoyed the ability to sit out the back on a large lawn and decompress and plan for the next day.
