I stayed at the Pembroke for two nights at the start of my honeymoon. The hotel was centrally located in the middle of Kilkenny -- a perfect location for walking around the city. We parked our car in the hotel's small parking lot and didn't go back to it until we checked out. This would be my only concern with the hotel - the fact that the parking area was so small and I would imagine that parking would be hard to find sometimes.
The inside of the hotel was very modern, clean, and comfortable. Our room was oddly shaped, but it worked - very spacious. I am very picky about hotel rooms, but was extremely content with this room. It had a nice sitting area and table, desk, large and comfy bed, closet area, and nice and clean bathroom. Everything was very clean. I felt very comfortable here.
The customer service we received was excellent .... in fact we came back late one night and found the kitchen was closed, but the bartender offered to make us some sandwiches, which were very good. He also gave us excellent tips of places to visit as we traveled across Ireland. Additionally, when we checked out, the staff asked us where we were headed and gave us directions and a map on how to get out of the city and on the right road to our next destination. The staff also provided us with a handy map to use while we explored Kilkenny and gave us tips on good pubs to go to.
Breakfast was very good and filling. The breakfast dining area was comfortable and the staff was very polite and nice.
The location of the hotel is -fantastic-. Within walking distance is Kilkenny Castle (there is an outdoor market area with fresh-baked goods, coffees, and such that was set-up outside the castle), an artisan area with silversmiths and quaint shopping, Smithwicks brewery (a must-go if you enjoy beer), Rothe House, St. Canices Cathedral, the Black Abbey, and so much more. The town itself was very pleasant to walk around in.
Kilkenny turned out to be one of our favorite towns in Ireland, and the Pembroke one of our favorite hotels. If I ever have the opportunity to visit again, I will stay at the Pembroke with no hesitation.
