“Nice friendly B&B”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 August 2006

A nice B&B about a 10/15 minute walk away from Kilkenny town centre just along the main rd(Castle RD).Helen was very friendly and made suggestions as to food and drink but then left us to our own devices. Lovely breakfast - choice of Full Irish or continental - fruit salad, scones etc - lovely! Very helpful. cost €35/ person/ night in high season.

“Warm Irish Hospitality”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 June 2006

We toured Ireland for 2 weeks and Cnoc Mhuire was one of our favorite bed and breakfasts. Helen Sheehan was warm and welcoming and very informative. Our room was spacious, spotless, quiet and within walking distance of the Kilkenny Castle.
We would definitely stay here again.

“Would stay elsewhere”

We were disappointed in this B&B. The place is very small and each room is tiny. They all are next to each other like children's rooms in a house, and our room was next to the lounge/dining area so there was absolutely no privacy.

The room was clean and nicely decorated and we did get a good night's sleep but this is not a great B&B. The proprietor, Helen, seemed to have an attitude and was very aloof.
We asked for an iron and she told us we had to come out to the main area to iron our clothes. That wasn't exactly convenient considering I had just gotten out of the shower.

The breakfast was a joke as well. They handed me a package of processed cheese and crackers. The other people I was with weren't too happy with their cooked breakfast either.

It is a good walk to town for those who are not fit, but there is parking along the road and in a small lot near the castle.

The good thing is the fact that it is quiet and there is ample parking however, I would not stay here again nor would recommend it.

“outstanding welcome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 April 2006

Helen Sheehan is a warm, caring owner with 26 years running this B & B, and it shows. The room was perfect for three of us, with a warm radiator next to the bed, an electric blanket, extremely clean room and bath, sidetable magazines, and everything needed for our one-night stay. There was a choice for breakfast; our full Irish meal was beautifully set out and served in a lovely dining room. The cost was 32 euros per night, 28 if in cash. We gave 100 for the loveliness of it all.

The one drawback was it is a ten-fifteen minute walk to town. For all the other plusses, we would stay here again.
The tourist information was phenomenal. We were given maps and suggestions of things to see in Kilkenny and on our trip to Killarney. Helen made reservations at Rossarney Town House in Killarney for the next night, and she asked the owner there to make reservations for the Ring of Kerry tour. Thanks to her help, we changed some unrealistic plans and had a wonderful time.

On the way out, we were waved goodbye at the door and wished "God Bless". How Irish, how warm, what a welcoming first night in Ireland. Thanks to Helen and her husband, Tom.

“Warm and comfortable”

Staying at Cnoc Mhuire (pronounced ka-nock weer-ah) was a warm experience. As we arrived hungry and tired on a rainy November night, it was warm in many ways - not only in the reception - Helen sat us by the radiator and brought us tea and scones - but in the room itself. The radiator was right next to the bed and the bed had an electric heating pad.

It's good to have a car if you stay here - we didn't try walking to town but it would be inconveniently long if the weather were bad. This was the first B&B we stayed at on this trip and Helen helped us figure out where to go next, what to see on the way, and recommended a B&B at our destination. We stayed at the B&B she recommended and it was also great.
