“5 Grand Days”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

I would have to say this is one of my best hotel experiences. I started off in Tralee at a different hotel but I had gone down to the Grand for some lunch. It was about 2:30 in the afternoon and the place was packed so i went on up to the bar. I have to say the food was excellent. I got involved in a conversation with a couple of gentlemen at the bar and came to find out that one of them was Dick, the owner. He asked if I was staying in Tralee and I told him yes at least a couple of more nights. He asked what I was getting charged at the other place that I have been staying and he said he couldn't do as good as the other on the rate but made it 10Euro more/night than the other place I was staying. It was well worth the extra 10Euro. Rooms, Staff, Food all great. It may be a bit more than the other hotel I was staying at, but well worth it. 60Euro/night for bed and breakfast at this place is an excellent price and your location in the middle of everything is great.

Room Tip: I would try to get a room facing the street. My room faced the some kind of maze of outdoor stairs a...

“A well run hotel”

We stayed at the Grand for a night and were treated with fun and dignity. It was obvious I have a mobility problem and we were asked if we would prefer a room on the first level instead of the room that had been allocated to us, and it was pointed out that the new room would be a bit smaller but was comfortable. We accepted with pleasure as we did have a fair bit of luggage as well (well you do when on a 2 month trip) but out of nowhere a lovely youg man appeared and our bags were whisked up to the room before we could even finish checking in. he also refused a tip, saying he likes to help when he can.

Our room was a decent size and all we needed...one small gripe was the toilet is set very low (we thought it might be that way for any leprachauns who stayed so their wee feet wouldn't dangle when on the loo !) Even though we faced the street there was no noise problems.

We had a really nice dinner in the restuarant and the food was fresh and tasty...as was the breakfast next day. the staff in the restuarant were all helpful and very pleasant.

On checkout, our bags were once again taken out to the car, with the lad telling my husband that "herself says this is to go behind the front seat"...he too refused a tip. I rather liked being "herself".

Obviously a happy hotel for staff and then this reflects on the service we get. Thanks for happy memories of Tralee.

“Can't beat it”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2011

From the staff, to the hotel and the pub attached you can't go wrong staying here. This place is a gem. We stayed here two nights and took advantage of having the pub/restaurant attached to the hotel. After doing some day trips (which the staff was more than happy to help us plan) we enjoyed parking the car and being able to relax where we were staying. Food was excellent and the beds very comfy.

“Feels like home.”

We booked an extra night because of the staff's friendliness and the pub's food. If we ever chose a hotel to live in permanently, this would be the one. The locals consider the Grand to be theirs. The manager is constantly available and vigilant. The reception desk went out of their way to assist us in every way.

The location for those traveling by train is in the heart of town and only a couple of blocks downhill from the station. There are probably good restaurants nearby but we ate every meal that we were in town at the pub.

Dingle and Killarney are nearby and wonderful but the Grand at Tralee was the best part of our trip. The hotel was built in 1928, has no elevator but neither does our home. If you like a friendly, clean and unhurried atmosphere. This is idyllic. We stayed at the end of October and on the weekend and above the pub and though it was of course a little noisy, not enough to hinder a peaceful sleep and gentle dreams.

“Really friendly hotel”

Just want to say what a really lovely place the grand is, wished we had stayed there unfortunately we were at a hotel round the corner and what a disaster. We came to the Grand to eat and were very welcome. The manager even put a candle on a cake and all the staff sang Happy Birthday for our 85 year old mother. We will definetly stay here in the future
