My fiancée and I had communicated with the hotel by email a number of times, and arranged to visit to check out the hotel for our forthcoming wedding. From the moment we arrived, we were treated very professionally. The receptionist referred to us on a first name basis, knew exactly that we had dinner booked in the restaurant later that night, and that we would be flying back the UK the next day.
When we got to our suite, there was a hand-written card, welcoming us to the hotel, accompanied by home made cookies (which were fantastic).
We spoke with Padraig later in the day, to go through wedding arrangements, and even though he had a bride and groom arriving in minutes, he gave us the time to explain everything in detail. He was able to show us the room, all set-out for the wedding that day, which was a great way to visualise our own wedding. No question was too silly. Everything Padraig said to us, was coming from a very experienced person. Not for one minute did we feel like we were being 'feed a line' as we had felt with other hotels.
Padraig walked through, in detail, what our day would entail, down to bacon baps, as described by other reviews :-) He was also able to recommend bands and dj's, according to our specific guests (which would be mostly Irish and English).
We invited 2 friends to dinner that night, and we all had the best meal in the restaurant. The sea bass was exceptional, the fillet and sirlion steaks were a joy to eat.
Desert, well what can you say about desert, other than, they were gorgeous.
Oh, I almost forgot to mention the outdoor heated pool & relaxation room in the spa which are free to use for all guests, without booking. Fantastic addition to the hotel. What was exceptional was that my fiancée hadn't brought his swimming togs, and the spa staff said they actually have spare togs available for use, at any time. Tiny details, which make a huge difference.
We are looking forward to holding our wedding reception there in a few months time.

“Lovely One Night Stay,Small points for improvement”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

Well my wife and i stayed here on the 4th of feb for one night and i must say ,we did enjoy it although the weather was poor enough;but its ireland.

We stayed in the Master Suite at around 190 euro per night and it was lovely but it was missing something,i think the room itself was very nice but i think it could be dressed up a bit more with flowers etc.

Well we arrived at ballygarry house and it was around 1.30 mins from cork as weather conditions were bad,we arrived at the hotel and it was nice and the receptionist was very professional, very helpful and exaplained everything. So we got our key and went to the room, first thing,it was cold,no hassle, the heating was timed and didnt come on yet but there was air con so we bumped that up and had a good look around.
Being the master suite, you would think there would be more than 2 bottles of water, loads of flowers etc but unfortunately there wasnt but this only an obervation for improvement and not negative. There is also 2 TV's but one remote control between the two,i had to ask of the cleaning girls the location of the other control!!There is only one,a small thing but again, there should be 2.

We headed down to the bar for a drink and we found the staff to be very nice although there was a middle aged blond lady and i think she should smile a bit more and look happier, she is working in a nice place but she didnt look very happy.....maybe there is buckets of happiness in her ready to come out......

anyway,as we are sociable smokers,we went out the side of the hotel for a quick smoke,no ash trays! i hate throwing butts down a drain and making a place look dirty but had no choice as there was no where to put the butts, maybe a sheltered area wouldnt go waste either at some corner! with heaters as it was a dirty night out there!

well later we went to the restaurant and it was very nice,a lovely middle aged man served us and he was very nice indeed,75 euro for 2 meals,1 desert,2 drinks......i thought it was expensive in this age
the restaurant is actually very nice and the staff are kepy going,i would however recommend to put a unit on the higher part of the room across from the main breakfast bar area as when the tables were being turned over, the staff were running up and down the steps bringing glasses, cutlery etc to these tables but if there was a unit closer, they would do it faster and not running up and down the steps when the guests are trying to have a meal...in peace

OK the toilets outside the restaurant, they are freezing and also in the ladies as my wife told me also when she came back,i would defo put some electric heaters in these as you would catch a cold going in there. Also in the gents, there are no coat hooks on the inside of the doors,i had to out my jacket on the floor and wasnt too impressed with that to be honest.

I ordered breakfast to the room the next morning and there was a charge of five euro for this service,i think this is cheeky when i paid a few hundred for one night, this should be removed for Suite guests

To sum up everything,
we enjoyed the stay in this hotel and we agree that the staff are very friendly,i would however do some extra touches in the Suites of the hotel and just improve on the small points i mentioned.

Dear Dubai30,

Thank you for taking the time to write and post your review on your recent stay. Thank you for your kind comments.

I would like to address some of the points. We have a policy within the Hotel of using fresh flowers in most public areas of the Hotel but have found that some people have an issue with pollen so therefore we don't usually place in the bedrooms unless requested. I will note your comment though as it is the Master Suite and we will relook at how the room is finished with some touches that can be added.
With reference to the smoking areas, we have a state of the art heated terrace to the rear of the Hotel where smokers can sit with ashtrays on every table that we would suggest Hotel guests use. I have noted the other comments and will mention as necessary to the relevant departments. I wish to thank you for all of the points as we constantly aim to enhance our customer experience and take all of our guest feedback onboard as constructive opinion.

I do hope to welcome you back to Ballygarry House again in the future- I hope the weather is better the next time!

Best wishes,
Padraig McGillicuddy

“Most magical place for a wedding reception!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

This review is a long time coming.....Finially here it is!!!

We had our wedding reception in Ballygarry House Hotel on August 5th 2011 and from start to finish all we can say is pure and utter perfection.
Padraig, Cathal and all of the staff are an amazing bunch of hardworking people, the amount of work and effort they all put in to make our day so memorable and special was beyond belief, they could not have done enough for us. Their attention to detail was outstanding, someone was always there to offer help or advice, be it during the planning and even on the day itself. Everybody made us and all of our wedding guests feel so welcome.
From the drinks reception out in the beautiful gardens, to the most amazing meal, to the carved beef and bacon baps (the best treat of all we were told) at the end of the night, everything was flawless........well there was one fault........the day went way too fast :-)
We really felt like a King & Queen that day, treated like royality by everyone at Ballygarry, We'd do it all again in a heartbeat!!
An amazing hotel for a wedding reception.....such a magical experience!!

“Soooo Relaxing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

Firstly I must say the staff at this hotel are the best staff I have ever come across in any hotel in Ireland or abroad, they are so helpful with everything from checkin, dinner to anything in between, and they are all so pleasant It is without doubt the nicest hotel I have ever stayed in.

My girlfriend and I are young (20) and we were pretty young in comparison to others in the hotel , we stayed for 3 nights and got it very cheap, only 120pps for B&B and one 4 course evening meal.

Firstly I'll start with the room. We had a double room and it was massive and extremely clean. The room was so spacious and the beds were great. It is one thing that always annoys me about other hotels is uncomfortable beds but this one was perfect.

The food was very good aswell, we had breakfast each morning at the hotel. Everything was nice, the only thing I would have liked would be a bit more selection at the buffet side of things, its a bit slack in comparison to other hotels. The dinner at the hotel was also really nice, I got a steak and it was lovely.

The spa in the hotel is brilliant too, we got a massage aswell there and again the staff were great. The hot tub and sauna etc were very nice too everything was so clean. The relaxation room was also so comfortable, we both thought it was like heaven. The only thing I would have like was a small pool maybe but you cant have it all.

The location is good in my opinion, its only a 2 minute drive from Manor West shopping centre, and 5 from Tralee. Its out of the town so its that bit quieter which is good if thats what your looking for.

Its also only 5 minute walk from a woods, with great walkways so we both enjoyed that too.

All in all i could not recommend this hotel more to be honest. Its head and shoulders above any other 4star i have been to, and would give some 5star a run for their money.

Only improvements I could think of would be a small pool for the spa, and a fridge for the rooms would be helpful. Also the head boards on the beds were a small bit dusty, but all in all a fantastic stay.

“Lovely wedding experience”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

I attended a wedding at the Ballygarry recently and had a lovely time. The wedding meal was superb. I asked for a rare steak and that is how it arrived. Considering they were serving 250 that is some achievement. There was plenty of food and each course was lovely. Staff were very attentive.

The room was grand. No view at all as we overlooked a part of the roof. We booked a twin room and it was a good size. Bathroom was disappointing though as it smelled of urine around the toilet. Shower curtain didn't close over all the way so all the towels which were folded above the toilet were soaked. Breakfast was lovely except for the extremely leathery bacon.

Overall the staff were lovely and the wedding was wonderful. If I was staying again for a wedding I would have no hesitation in staying but if I was staying with family for a holiday I'm not sure I'd stay.

Dear Louise D,

Thank you for taking the time to write your review. I am delighted to see that you had a fantastic review of the wedding. It is with disappointment that I read the end of your review. This experience is not at all what we would expect and had the matter been brought to our attention that day we would have rectified it immediately. I have conducted an investigation into this matter and assure you that our level of cleanliness is a very important matter to us and one we take very seriously.

I do hope that you will revisit Ballygarry House again in the future and not base your experience on this.

Kind regards,
