“Top-notch B+B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 August 2007

We spent 2 nights at the Aurora B+B recently and I cannot recommend it enough. The house is spotless and excellently presented, the beds are extremely comfortable, and the hosts, Mary and Liam, very friendly. Breakfast was exceptional with fruit, cereals, juices, home made scones and muffins and a full fry, cooked to your specifications. It was excellent value and I wouldn't hesitate in staying there again myself, or recommending it to others.

“Wonderful B & B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 July 2007

A large group of friends (4 couples) have just returned from 2 nights at the Aurora B&B and found it to be an ideal place to stay in every respect. The house is fabulously decorated, very new and spotlessly clean. The bed must be the most comfortable I've ever slept on!! Breakfast was lovely, fresh cerals, fruit and any variation on the fry. I especially liked that the hosts made a special point of pushing several tables together so the 8 of us could dine together each morning. Mary and her husband are most helpful and accommodating. Some of our party did not arrive in Killarney til well after midnight and they stayed up late to welcome them. They helped us out with choosing a restaurant by showing us a number of menus from places in town and gave us taxi numbers. They also invited us to use of the stunning foyer to gather as a group and have a chat in the early evening. On behalf of all of our group I really must reccommend this B&B very highly!

“Something special - highly recommened”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 July 2007

We stayed there for 4 nights and absolutely loved it. The B&B is very new and spotless. The interior is modern and the owners put some thoughts in how to arrange everything most practically. The breakfast was excellent and prepared to our wishes. Hosts Mary and Liam were very helpful with tips where to go in the area - even as this was our second visit to Killarney they were able to show us something new. They know the best restaurants and walks. This B&B is a real alternative to a hotel if you are looking for something modern and want a change to 'original' overloaded old style B&Bs. If we ever stay in Killarney again will definitely go there. Just one thing to note: The street can be a bit noisy during the day. But hey - who's staying in a B&B over the day and not going out. It calms down in the evening.

  • Liked — The hosts we just a great source of information.
  • Disliked — A bit outside - so you need a car.

“Brand new house”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 November 2006

Brand new house, just opened in 2005. Spotless on the inside and outside. Very well kept. It looks like it has been decorated completely from Ikea though. The hostess even admits that she wants it to be very minimalist. The host and hostess are new to the area, having moved over from Dublin. NOTE: CASH ONLY! This B&B is extremely difficult to find as there is no signage and the map from the web page is no good. When coming from Killarney town, the B&B is just past the Senator Windows store on the left side of the road. Here are the pros and cons:

PROS: Brand new home, opened in 2005; Very very clean and tidy; Wonderful host and hostess; Nice soft beds; Well maintained

CONS: Whole house smelled strongly of Indian food the entire night that we arrived; Plain and simple, very minimalistic; Average breakfast; 2 twin beds in each room that can't be pushed together; Road noise; Extremely hard to find-no signage; Cash only

We rated this B&B a 3.5 out of 5.

I am writing to comment on the last review on my guesthouse dated 12th Nov 2006. The people who stayed in my house calling themselves ShamPillow on the 28th October ‘06 wrote the following comments in my visitors book. “ We had such a pleasant stay with you. Thank you for your warm hospitality, lovely and simple home, great breakfast and comfy beds. The second couple wrote “ lovely place, lovely rooms, lovely breakfast, lovely hospitality, lovely people. So needless to say I am a bit miffed as to the remarks they put on your website. The picture showing the bed room is particularly distressing as they took the photo after they had disturbed the bedding. There is no way I would present a room like that.
They also managed to break a toilet seat. Upon going to clean it ,it just fell apart. Yes we did have a curry that evening. There was no way the smell was all over the house all night long( the smell was in the dining room). The bedroom doors are fire doors which means they are completely sealed when closed. Yes there is some Ikea furniture in my bedrooms. I was not aware this was a crime. It is comfortable and functional. I have two nice Italian sofas in my lobby which they forgot ignored as well as a specially commissioned mirror. My house is purposely minimalist and clutter free as stated on my website. They stayed in our house for €33 per person sharing. This is the lowest price I have charged this year and we were probably the cheapest place they stayed in on their visit to Ireland. They even emailed me before they arrived to know if I would provide shampoo for them!!. I emailed back stating I provided towels, and shower gel, but I would gladly provide shampoo if it helped, which I did do.
Most people coming here drive straight to us ..They usually have the printout from the computer with them, which also shows the telephone number. After all we are on the main road therefore not extremely hard to find, but I will take on board the fact we do not have a sign. From now on all our guests will be made very aware of this. It amazes me that these people gave me a review probably in comparison to a five star hotel. They selected our house ( which I take great pride in) on the Internet. Our description is accurate.. We clearly state we offer twin beds . The breakfast consisted of natural yogurt, grapefruit, a variety of individually boxed cereals (not in plastic containers) fresh fruit, home made brown scones, Toast, home made chocolate muffins, bacon and eggs as requested. I was asked if I could provide blackcurrant jam which I did do. If pancakes were what they wanted it’s a pity they didn’t say so. It would have been a lot easier for me. Why did they write all those lovely comments in my visitor’s book if they didn’t mean it? It certainly confuses me.

Yours sincerely,
Mary Carr.

“Delightful Memories”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 August 2006

This was a real treat for us. We had been traveling in Ireland for longer than a week when we came to this destination that we booked through a B&B connection site on the Web. It was so clean and yet warm. It was well thought in design and comfort. The couple running this establishment are incredibly hospitable and kind. Mary and Liam Carr make a delightful host-duo. They are most interesting people and genunine in their "Happiness". We all have a love for music and enjoyed listening to music (and they have nearly every piece of music you could dream for and now some of our teens American top tunes too.) We also were honored to hear Liam play the guitar and sing, "Here comes the Sun"...which was fantastic. We were traveling with our teenager, who was delighted to have her own room and bath for our too-short a two-night stay. We wished we would have booked to stay at least another night or two. This is the way to run a B&B. The location is great too and there is so much to do with Killarney so close that we had to limit our choices due to a lack of time. Note: Don’t miss the National Park and The Carr’s know all the best restaurants for your needs, so ask them! I highly recommend this B&B. It was our MOST FAVORITE B&B in our more than two weeks in Ireland and about 8 other B&B's to compare. If you have the good fortune of staying at the Aurora B&B .... Wait until you taste breakfast (exactally as you ordered and better) in that beautiful room of glass... Wow both the food and the environment were, by far, way above the norm. The house is so beautiful and styled in simple elegance. Nothing pretentious about; new, friendly, neat, clean, warm, spacious (Rare for Ireland), private, generous, safe, happy, inviting and just very “SPECIAL”. What a delightful memory. Spend some time looking at the flowers in the lovely garden too. We loved our Stay.
