“One of the best guest houses we've ever stayed in”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2007

We travelled to Killarney for a hill-walking weekend and booked our beds in Aurora based on what we'd read on the web. We were totally blown away by both our hosts Liam and Mary and by the excellent standard of accommodation they provided. Warm, modern and perfectly presented rooms, fabulous breakfasts (Mary's home baking is the best!) and friendly advice on local attractions combined to make for a 10/10 experience. We have already recommended Aurora to friends as an excellent, value for money place to stay when visiting the kingdom. We will be back!!

“Don't stay here”

We had reservations to stay 8/22.We were unable to find Aurora House due to lack of signage. When we expressed our frustration we were not allowed to stay because the "mood was wrong" The owner said she didn"t want riff-raff off the street. It is not Board of Tourism approved. They are using the internet to skim the elite tourists & under cut the competition.

In response to a review from Traveller 9969 Michigan, I feel I have to tell my side of the story. The couple arrived in the evening for their stay. They had a problem trying to find us. No matter how difficult it was for them it didn't warrant their behaviour. The woman was shouting at me and appeared to be out of control. I felt sorry for the man. He knew she was out of order as he put his hand over her mouth to try and stop her from blowing it completely. Well, when I was greeted with this aggressive and abusive behaviour, I did not want them in my house. I told the man it just would not work now but he went on to say she would calm down eventually and he wanted to stay. All in all he seemed like a nice person so I agreed to let them stay. He returned to the woman in the car to discuss it. I was sitting on my garden bench waiting for the verdict. The woman decided they would not stay now. It was their decision, not mine as they stated in the review. They were not charged for the cancellation. The situation could have been so different; we could have discussed the problem in a civilized manner. These people did not have a phone or a picture of the house printed from the internet. It is so easy to change over your phone to pay as you go when travelling. I was doing them a favour taking them for one night. One night bookings are hard work for very little reward. There is no requirement for me to belong to the Tourist Board. My house is a purpose built modern B&B with full size bathrooms, fire doors and ceilings. Not all Tourist Board B&Bs are purpose built like we are. I guess they were just disappointed they didn’t stay here and decided to retaliate with their invented comments in the review. When I am travelling I like to remember I am an ambassador for my country. I don't bear these people a grudge in fact I wish them better luck next year. How can these people rate my house when they never set foot inside the property? I would like to take this opportunity to thank all my wonderful guests for their kind words and reviews. I have absolutely enjoyed meeting every one of you.

“Top-notch B+B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 August 2007

We spent 2 nights at the Aurora B+B recently and I cannot recommend it enough. The house is spotless and excellently presented, the beds are extremely comfortable, and the hosts, Mary and Liam, very friendly. Breakfast was exceptional with fruit, cereals, juices, home made scones and muffins and a full fry, cooked to your specifications. It was excellent value and I wouldn't hesitate in staying there again myself, or recommending it to others.

“Wonderful B & B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 July 2007

A large group of friends (4 couples) have just returned from 2 nights at the Aurora B&B and found it to be an ideal place to stay in every respect. The house is fabulously decorated, very new and spotlessly clean. The bed must be the most comfortable I've ever slept on!! Breakfast was lovely, fresh cerals, fruit and any variation on the fry. I especially liked that the hosts made a special point of pushing several tables together so the 8 of us could dine together each morning. Mary and her husband are most helpful and accommodating. Some of our party did not arrive in Killarney til well after midnight and they stayed up late to welcome them. They helped us out with choosing a restaurant by showing us a number of menus from places in town and gave us taxi numbers. They also invited us to use of the stunning foyer to gather as a group and have a chat in the early evening. On behalf of all of our group I really must reccommend this B&B very highly!

“Something special - highly recommened”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 July 2007

We stayed there for 4 nights and absolutely loved it. The B&B is very new and spotless. The interior is modern and the owners put some thoughts in how to arrange everything most practically. The breakfast was excellent and prepared to our wishes. Hosts Mary and Liam were very helpful with tips where to go in the area - even as this was our second visit to Killarney they were able to show us something new. They know the best restaurants and walks. This B&B is a real alternative to a hotel if you are looking for something modern and want a change to 'original' overloaded old style B&Bs. If we ever stay in Killarney again will definitely go there. Just one thing to note: The street can be a bit noisy during the day. But hey - who's staying in a B&B over the day and not going out. It calms down in the evening.

  • Liked — The hosts we just a great source of information.
  • Disliked — A bit outside - so you need a car.
