I booked this hotel based on the mostly good reviews and was looking forward to a lovely weekend in Killarney. We booked a Dinner, B&B package at 100.00 per person. We checked in at 6pm after a long drive. I was absolutely shocked at the standard of the room we had been allocated, it was a throwback to the 70's...a tiny room with a barely double bed, faded patterned bed bed linen, lino in the tiny, cramped shower room, horrible curtains on a small window overlooking a dirty flat roof. There was no room available to move us to.
So, we went to dinner, empty dining room at 8pm, freezing cold. I asked for the AC to be turned on....the "waitress" said " Noone else complained" but agreed to turn up the heat. By the main course there was no change in temp. It turned out there was no AC so they pulled in a plug in radiator.....huffily and sourly. Awful, awful. Dinner for my partner was pre packed, boil in the bag portions of beef. He objected ( and he NEVER complains, his policy is don't go back!)...so they brought " lamb". Same thing. I could go on and on, I was so upset at the standard I went to the Reception desk and voiced my disappointment to a patronising, unhelpful "manager" standing in front of a huge Trip Advisor 4 * recommended sign! She said "everyone was complaining about the cold"!!!!!!
There must be a parallel universe thing going on, seems like they have two standards of accommodation and the good reviews can only be based on these based on my experience.
Never, never again. My advise is, if you are booking, or have booked, call and ask what type of room they are allocating you in advance of arrival. Don,t eat in the dining room and wrap up warmly!
