We were traveling with another couple & spent a month in England, Scotland & Ireland. This was one of the better places we stayed. Jospehine is VERY professional and pleasant. The house is clean, quiet and well-run. Our rooms were pristine & very comfortable, affording a view of the mountains & a portion of Killarney Nat'l Park from the balcony (enjoyed morning coffee as well as an evening whiskey while enjoying that view!).
Bathroom was clean and adequate - shower only (we like a tub) but it was fine & Josephine brought us 'face cloths' (washcloths) knowing we were Americans. We didn't find any problems with the towels or the linens - they were lovely. Our room had a TV and complimentary coffee/tea service.
Breakfasts were lovely - some of the best (homemade) Muselix of the trip, but she also offered other cereals, fruit, juice and other breakfast options (including the dreaded full Irish breakfast... I'm not an egg or bean eater in the morning). I HIGLY recommend her 'pancakes'... which are a slightly eggy version of a crepe with fresh berries & kiwi fruit ...sprinkle them with the yummy maple sugar she has on the sideboard or use the REAL maple syrup if you want them sweeter.
Josephine is right on top of all the options of things to do and graciously ordered curb pick up service for our tour of the Ring of Kerry - we'd planned to go another day, but when the sun came up and gleamed over the McGillicuddy Reeks, she wisely advised "go today, while it's clear and lovely"... we did and were treated with one of the best, clear days of the the year.
She also advised us to walk into Muckrose House -- there are lots of ways to get there, but we like to walk and if you take the "long way" you'll enjoy a serene forest stroll that's very relaxing with a wonderful stone estate and formal gardens at the end.
As for the location - you're in a very quiet residential area. None of us found the easy 10 minute walk into town the least bit trying or disconcerting (even in a light rain one evening). It's through a quiet neighborhood and even when walking "home" at night after a night of wonderful food & music @ Murphys or a great meal @ Flesk, it wasn't a problem. I also walked into town alone several times and never felt uncomfortable (I'm a chick from a small town too).
Josephine is WONDERFUL - attentive, personal service; warm hospitality; a quiet restful atmosphere and great advice on the local "what to do's"... we really appreciated her knowledge of the area.
