We chose to stay in Northwood House for several nights in July 2005 after reading Trip Advisor comments which seemed very favourable. The location was good - quiet and not too far from the centre of Killarney. Muckross House and Park are wonderful. The entertainment at the Gleneagle hotel is very good as is the early bird menu at the bar. Murphy’s bar food in Killarney is good too.
The breakfast was not good compared to other bed and breakfasts. We were only asked on the first day what we wanted and after that we were not provided with any choice. We were grudgingly provided with a full Irish breakfast (sausage, bacon...) which seemed to have been cooked earlier and reheated (though we were always in the dining room at the appointed time). There did not seem to be much choice. Very little fruit etc. A few yoghurts (supermarket own brand) were available.
The shower is fixed and the pressure is not very good but the water was warm. There was no ventilation in the bathroom except the window.
In order to secure our booking we were required to provide credit card details. Yet there was a note on the back of the door in the room stating clearly that credit cards are not accepted for payment. Why this discrepancy?
Despite all these reservations the rooms are of a decent size.

We were thankful to be in a quiet, homey setting and to be treated like family returning from afar. After a busy day as a tourist, it's delightful to be able to relax in a home designed for your comfort and pleasure. And if anything had been amiss, we felt that our gracious hosts would have been concerned to make it right. They certainly were very attentive to our particular needs.

We stayed at 6 B&Bs on our trip and found that they were all above average and all were immaculate - two, including the Northwood House, even had white beadspreads! Our family room had a humongeous bathroom with tub and enough extra space to host four for bridge.

Other reviewers have both complimented and panned the location. I'd say its about a mile, maybe a little more, from the town center - some would call that walkable, others would not. We were tired and took our car to town, in Kilkenny, we walked a similar distance. It's on a nice, quiet residential street.

too far from town , we did not have a car and were lead to beleive this house was close to town, poor breckfast and no hot water ,
