“Truly Magical Property/Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2010

My family and I, rented the entire property for the Christmas/New Years period (12 days), all cottages and main house. We had a magical time. The property is lovely, warm, inviting with all amenities one would need. Donald and Rachel were gracious and lovely. There was nothing missing on the property that we could have wished for. The homes are decorated in a lovely and caring manner, filled with books, artwork, etc. You feel as though you are staying in someone's home that has been warmly attended to. We were so sad to leave and look forward to our return to the property. It's also in an ideal location, outside the town of Killarney, however, within walking distance to smaller village.

“Luxury and seclusion at picturesque estate”

Located approximately 15 minutes west of the town of Killarney and about 1/4 mile from the tiny village of Beaufort, we booked this self-catering luxury guest house about 1 year in advance. Our group of 15 rented the four large ensuite bedrooms (all on second floor) of the main house and two of the converted stable cottages for one week in August. All bedrooms have their own bathroom. Each cottage has a washer and dryer and full kitchen. The house accomodations included maid and towel service, but the cottages did not. The owners live in an adjacent wing and are available if needed, but prefer to leave guests their privacy. We had full use of the front foyer, formal dining room, library/sitting room with active wood fireplace, formal large living room with fireplace as well. There is a TV in the library with excellent channel selections. Hair dryers are available, one at the house, and one per cottage. There is one guest phone in the foyer. This accomodation also meters the electrical usage and phone usage and will bill those separately. Either Donald or his wife Rachel greeted our group as each car drove in and introduced us to our accomodations. They were generous and gracious and provided excellent advice about excursions in the area. I liked that they didn't post rules which would have detracted from the ca. 1840s era home. The house's base structure is actually formed from the ruins of a castle. The landscaping and lawn are carefully tended and we were able to play croquet one evening using their set. Occasionally their dogs will come out to romp with them or their year-round tenants and are very friendly. We hired Eileen O'Brien (info on the beauforthouse website) to cater our breakfasts since breakfast is not included. She cooked in the main house and we ate at the table in the kitchen. We only used the formal dining room one night for a group dinner which Eileen also provided. Eileen is a full time cook from Kenmare and we highly recommend her. She was so kind and generous with her ideas for us and her food choices were spot on as they say. We had her set up a buffet of cold foods for those young people who couldn't seem to get up in time for her hot cooked breakfast. She came in at 7 and left at 10 each morning. We enjoyed fires in the two parlors nearly every evening. Loved our stay.

  • Liked — views, historical home with all those interesting oil portraits on the walls. Bathrooms very nice.
  • Disliked — Would like to have more up-to-date written guidelines about area towns, restaurants and attractions with sample menus and pricing.

“Beautiful setting, comfortable accomodations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 August 2007

My extended family and I rented the Luane (4 bedrooms) and Flesk (3 bedrooms) starting on 14 July 2007. We had a fantastic week. The cottages are spacious and very comfortably furnished. Each bedroom has its own beautiful bathroom. The beds were comfortable with a large fluffy comforter and nice pillows. The kitchens were very large and had everything we needed. The washing machine in each unit was a plus and the 4 cottages shared a dryer. Rachel left a hair blow dryer in each unit which was a big help to us. For a small fee, you can get wireless access for the week - which was a great bonus. The grounds are beautiful. The kids loved swinging on the swings. One day, we had a great time renting fishing poles and going down to the river on the property. Only caught two small trout but it was great fun. the owner's dog - Cadbury joined us. He was always around and was a great source of amusement. We loved sitting outside each night until the sun set at 10:30 watching the kids run around. There's a very nice bar/restaurant in the small town of Beaufort - the Beaufort bar. If you decide to eat there - go hungry! The food is delicious and besides your entree they bring extra plates of scalloped potatoes, vegetables, roasted potatoes and chips. Beaufort House was a nice place to base our sightseeing excursions around Kerry. Rachel and Donald are very accomodating hosts.

“Heavenly...”

We (myself, my mother and my two young sons) stayed in the Torc Cottage at Beaufort House for a week. I was in HEAVEN. The cottage is truly a small townhouse. It was 2 stories, two bedrooms with 2 1/2 baths. A comfortable livingroom complete with fireplace. The kitchen was surprisingly good. I am a lover of cooking and was very impressed with what I had to work with. There was even a washing machine. The cottages (there are 4) are all decorated beautifully. They were clean (aside from spider webs here and there but I had to remind myself we were in the country), comfortable and came in an incredible view!!! My boys had a blast running around and swinging on the swings. They played outside until sunset (10:30pm) and I never had to worry about them! Donald and Rachel were wonderful hosts and went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. Beaufort House Cottages are a perfect place to stay while in the Killarney area. I cannot say enough wonderful things about it. It was a perfect week!
