This place is a complete dump and it's not cheap!

Give it a miss unless you enjoy staying in a small grubby room with a bathroom basin decorated with the previous guest's toothpaste slobber. The food and service was mediocre at best. We endured a night there ..never again.

Life is too short to waste your precious time and money staying in such a dire excuse for a hotel.

As my fiancee and myself would not be tourists in Ireland (from the south-east), we still enjoy going to Killarney, at anytime of the year. It is a fabulous place, and we love the buzzing atmosphere especially at night. I do think the hotel you pick has a lot to do with your stay. Good Accommodation is important. We stayed at the Failte but there were disadvantages to it. It was all very central, and the lady there was very nice, but the rooms were horrible, we got a back room, but from going by the front rooms (some of the doors were open), they didn't look that much better. Our room was very dark, and there was not a pleasant smell. The bathroom was tiny. Another thing I did not like was there was no reception area, you had to go up a long stairs into a restaurant and ring a bell for reservations. Another thing I didn't like was we were asked to pay the full amount up front on arrival. (i had already paid the deposit for 2 one month beforehand) In other hotels, the full amount is usually paid upon your departure. No, I wouldn't recommend this hotel. But I would recommend anybody to go to Killarney. It doesn't matter if you are American or Irish. Very welcoming atmosphere, oh yeah, The Flesk Restaurant is fabulous and affordable with really lovely friendly staff. We went there every night, and it was packed!! This really attracted us. Thanks

As a tourist in 2003 and 2004. I can personally attest that the failte hotel is one of the gems of killarney, and truly would be missed by the novice tourist,yet i would recommend exploring. Situated in the heart of the town, hospitality is nonetheless genuine, and accomodations are in line for the lodging price. I myself plan to refrequent the establishment, for the entities looking for a more traditional, yet modern facility have come to the right place. Sincerey, Jay McLaughlin

The benefit of staying at Failte Hotel was obvious from the moment my husband and I entered Killarney Town, LOCATION! The first major street we came to when rolling into town was College Street and a couple of blocks down, there was the Failte. It is located right in the heart of the town, within walking distance from everything and side by side to the colorful storefronts we had seen in the towns we travelled through on the way to Killarney.

However, outside of location, the Failte Hotel does not have a lot going for it. To get to the rooms, you must climb up to the third floor up a rather narrow staircase (not the easiest to navigate with luggage.) But, my main complaint was the lack of cleanliness. There was dried toothpaste on the wall above the sink. The carpet was visibly dirty with little pieces of something on it in several places. And, worse yet, the sheets were not clean. There were hairs and other little crumbs on them.

The room was decorated very plainly and somewhat outdated. The room was also very small with a shower so tiny your body nearly touched the walls while you were in it.

Another negative was that you were never really given the chance to interact with the staff as you do in other B&B's. There is not really a registration desk, you must go inside the restaurant to check in and out and it was unclear really who were the owners, etc.

Killarney is wonderful and very worth the visit. Do not miss eating at The Fresk and experiencing the sing-a-long music at The Danny Mann.

For those of you considering Killarney to drive the Ring of Kerry, drive the Ring of Kerry beginning at Killarney travelling through Kenmare and down to about Sneem. Then turn around. The vistas are not nearly as impressive on the other half of the drive and there is so much to see in Killarney your time would be better spent not driving the whole ring.
