Took a trip with my wife to Killarney and booked into this novel, quite hotel for the weekend to see the sites and explore the wilderness of Kerry. Arrived on the Saturday afternoon, checked in, all very friendly. The room was quite small, possibly the smallest in the hotel according to the fire escape detail on the back of the door, however it was large enough to meet our needs and we dropped our gear and headed out to explore.
We returned at 9 that evening and ordered sow food, I little overpriced for microwaved beef, but eatable, and after having a few quite drinks we headed off to bed. Woke at 2am as I was completely frozen. Zero heating in the room, and normally that would suit me, however I may as well have being sleeping outside it was that cold. To add to this, in the morning when I finally got out of bed, exhausted after not sleeping due to the cold, my wife demanded we leave the hotel as she was positive of been bitten by mites in the bed! This was unusual behaviour, but I was not prepared to argue. Obviously the heater wasn't working, o they maybe orgiven for this, but mites.....I don't know! We had paid for both nights but were happy to leave regardless after the first night.
Overall, visually clean, friendly staff, but if you can't get a comfortable sleep, then whats the point in forking out for this So-So guest house! I have being all over the world, from 5 star hotels in Hawaii to zero star hostels in New York in the depths of winter, and I ave never being excessively cold nor had issues with mites in the bed!
Killarney is full of places to stay so there are other options, but if I was going again I souls avoid Killarney altogether as it's overpriced and crazy busy, Kiltorgin, a small town not 15 minutes away is a far better option for those who want to experience rural Ireland!
Dingle, Inch and the Ring of Kerry are amazing and a must see for all thirsts and Irish like!
