“A five star experience for our wedding”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

We had our wedding reception at the Aghadoe Heights Hotel last October 2011. From the first day we visited in December 2010 we felt it was special, and on the day itself it didn’t disappoint - it was definitely a five star experience. The Aghadoe Heights and especially its staff, absolutely and without exaggeration made our wedding the unforgettable experience it was.

On our first visit, we were warmly greeted by Marie Chawke the Manager and instantly fell in love with the place. It is elegant, stylish and feels luxurious without any stuffiness. It feels like home with extra glamour!

During the preparations and planning with Siobhan, everything ran smoothly from start to finish. Siobhan was always there to advise and recommend suppliers and everyone we used was perfect - Richard Haslam for the flowers - fab!, Georgine Mackessy make up - fab! O’Callaghans Coaches etc etc, it was almost like having a wedding planner! We were also planning the wedding from the UK, so this was even more important, she was fantastic, always on the end of the phone.

The Aghadoe only does a handful of weddings every year, so you feel special because you are. Every aspect of the wedding from the food to the decoration to the running of the day is tailored to your individual needs, nothing is too much trouble.

The wedding does not feel like just another function, it is more like an exclusive party. We had sole use of the hotel for the night of the wedding, so it was a private party for us and our guests for 24 hours. There is no function room, so your wedding dinner feels like an evening in an exclusive restaurant with the standard of food to match! PC the restaurant manager is professional, but friendly and firm, gently guiding you to plan the perfect menu and wines to suit your tastes and budget. The food is outstanding, not just relative to other weddings or functions but in comparison with top restaurants. We had eaten at the Aghadoe before and their excellent reputation is well deserved, the food at the wedding was of the same standard exactly, one of the highlights of the day for everyone.

The dancing etc is held in the bar, and again, it feels like a party in a fabulous club! Totally different from your standard wedding experience.

The highlight of the hotel for us was the Penthouse suite, which was our home for the weekend - and a few days more, because we just couldn’t tear ourselves away! This suite is beyond expectation and we had a post wedding party here on the night after the big day, which was almost as good as the day itself!! The views are breathtaking.

At the Aghadoe the food is amazing, the location and surroundings are amazing, I could talk about it forever, but the single best thing about the Aghadoe is the staff. We and our guests felt like celebrities for our entire stay. Many of our guests had travelled from abroad and were blown away by the welcome, friendliness and unbelievable service they received. Many are already planning their return, not least us!

This is a five star hotel with a service and attention to detail that is second to none, but none of this luxurious experience is delivered at the expense of the warm and unpretentious attitude of the staff. In particular I would like to mention Marie, Siobhan, PC, Jason, David and last but most certainly not least Breda. All made our stay and our special day more than we could have wished for by going above and beyond the call of duty. Breda even hand delivered my veil to home the day after we left, not to mention making sure a nervous best man had a good breakfast while finishing his speech early on the wedding morning, despite his protestations!

Next weekend, we are all returning to the Aghadoe for my sister’s 30th birthday party, a sign of how much we loved this fantastic hotel, and we can’t wait! but again, it might be difficult to get rid of us once it is time to leave!

I would not hesitate in recommending this hotel for your wedding, I promise you it will meet and likely exceed all your expectations. Thank you so much AH, sorry this review is a little late x

Room Tip: Penthouse for a special occasion, it's amazing.

Just spent a one night break here. Very beautiful, amazing views of the Lakes of Killarney, very subtle 5 star standard. Felt like a much longer break. Staff and Food top class.

Room Tip: If available I'd go for a Lake view room.

Im just back from another wonderful weekend in this fantastic five star hotel! I have stayed here a few times and cannot recommend it highly enough. From the minute you walk in the door you instantly feel relaxed. The staff make you feel so welcome, are all so friendly and cannot do enough for you. We ate in both the restaurant and the lounge and the food was amazing in both! We also went to the spa which was superb. The stunning view, friendly staff, fabulous spa, delicious food, relaxed atmosphere and fantastic value for money all make me want to go back to this wonderful hotel as soon as possible. I cannot recommend Aghadoe Heights Hotel highly enough....five star and more!

“Terrific Getaway”

Recently stayed at Aghadoe Heights for a weekend - the object of the weekend was rest & relaxation - and that's exactly what we got. It's a wonderful hotel (although some guests maybe put off by the exterior). But what makes this hotel extra special is the terrific staff. A smile makes everything seem better, and the staff here carried out their work with a smile. The bedroom & bathroom was spotless (as you'd expect!). And there was real hairdryers (not the hairdryer where you need to keep your finger on the button to get a blast of heat!) The breakfast is out of this world. We ate Bar food - so I can't comment on the restaurant - but the bar food was delicious! And lets not forget the breathtaking views of the Lakes of Killarney.....

I hope to return soon :)

“Beautiful hotel in blustery January”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

We stayed here in early January, when much of Killarney was closed post Christmas. The hotel is in a very beautiful location and overlooks a magnificent lake. Location is a little out of Killarney but there is a shuttle bus if you fancy leaving the car at the hotel.

Stayed on a 3 B&B and one evening meal basis, and booked a garden suite for the duration. The suite was lovely, spacious and a problem with our bed was sorted out very quickly when we reported it.

Breakfast was wonderful every morning, no matter what we had! Lots of food, and all of it really lovely.

We ate lunch in the bar twice and it was magnificent each time. Really top quality produce, presentation and cooking, attentive service and very relaxed unhurried setting. We also had dinner here in the bar on one evening as well, as it offered better value and better quality food than virtually every restaurant menu we perused in Killarney that evening!

Killarney restaurant prices were to be honest, shockingly expensive, with any early bird menus only available until 6.30-645, in a "Dead" week for tourism and very little visible effort to entice customers inside. We were both very disappointed in Killarney.

We both visited the spa and had a back massage from body therapists! Some hotels provide therapists who are not body therapists and the massage can be very hit and miss. Not so with ours! The lunch/treatment voucher offered very good value for money. The spa was very nice and I really enjoyed the sauna.

We dined in the Hotel Restaurant on one evening, and enjoyed a really terrific meal. Superb meal from Starters to Dessert. It was wonderful.

What stopped us dining here again was the cost of dinner in the Restaurant. I believe its a la carte prices were just too high in the current economic climate. It's not a criticism - just a personal observation.

All the staff we met were friendly, courteous and very helpful throughout our stay.

Overall a lovely relaxing stay.
