“Good stay”

Given the current spate of offers on hotel stays at the moment you could do a lot worse than this place. It's clean, it's convenient and it's good value.

It stands about 1 mile outside of Killarney on the Muckross Road. As such it's just about walkable either in the town direction or to the INEC if you fancy. There is free parking outside. There are a number of other hotels around too which have bars & restaurants if you prefer something more local. The bar / restaurant in the Holiday Inn is standard fare for Killarney - a traditional style setting with food brought to the table. Buffet breakfast was included in our stay and the choice was good although the scrambled eggs weren't so great. The rooms were spacious and clean. Unfortunately there was no wifi in the room but there is free access in the public areas.

The best thing about the hotel is there is a small swimming pool at the back and it's great to be able to swim in a heated pool in the depths of winter. Just remember to bring a swimming cap otherwise you have to buy one.

“Satisfactory stay”

This was a last minute decision to get away for a night on New Years Eve. We spent hours trying to get a nice hotel that would do New Years Eve dinner and accommodation for a family of 4. We had no luck - as everything was either sold out or ridiculously priced. One average enough boutique hotel quoted me over €1,000 for 2 & and 1 Dinner. This was not a 5* property.

Anyway back to the Holiday Inn. We were lucky to get it really - although normally it would not have been a hotel I would have considered.

We got a rate of €190 - which was for a 2 bed suite. we could have got a family room for €30 cheaper - but the suite was so worth it. We were amazed at how huge the room was. It consisted of a lounge area with a sofa bed and fold up bed. There was also table/chairs and a god sized fridge in this area. We also had a separate double bedroom. The suite had 2 TV's - which was very handy. God tea/coffee making facilities (well stocked).

The hotel is about 10-15 mins walk from the town centre. Parking was OK (no extra cost).

Downs. Some of the public areas could do with a 'spruce up' . We didnt use the gym or pool - my sons (who have stayed here before) reported that the pool was very small - and the gym was adequate. We didnt use the restaurant either. Hotel rate was overpriced (but for New Years Eve it was on par with everybody else). I did feel the charge for wifi was a bit cheeky - although it was free in the lounge/bar.

Ups. Reception staff were very friendly. Room was huge and very clean. Fridge was most welcome.

I would imagine this hotel would be ideal for a family with 2 or 3 children - as a base for touring the area. I know you can get some great deals here off peak.

Room Tip: Get a suite - its worth the little bit extra.

“Good little getaway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2011

We stayed at the property in May, it was a great little get away!
The rooms were large and the bathrooms are in good shape.
The bar downstairs was great, lots of space and food was yum! They have live music on a saturday night and played a rugby game while we were staying so there was a great ambiance to the place!
It is a short walk into town, so if you are less mobile then may not be the best place for you but there are always taxis :)
Would def recommend to friends and family!

“Basic Good Quality”

Went off season and the hotel was a bit eerie, however the rooms are quite spacious and the food is good quality. The water in the pool was cool for the kids but the hotel is clean and good value price wise.

“A good place if you get the right deal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2011

Friendly helpful staff, both receptionists we dealt with were great. One, a German lady (sorry, didn't catch her name), really went out of her way to be helpful.

Have stayed in both Double room (two large double beds, not a lot of space around) and a Suite, two separate rooms and bathroom off a small corridor.

They do seem to offer many packages and deals and the deal we got was very good.

Pool is small but clean.

Breakfast was ok, but I do understand the 'Holiday Inn Express' comment made by another reviewer. Veggie options thin on the ground, but the kitchen obliged with some poached eggs and mushrooms when asked.

Bar food - was ok for a toasted sandwich and a kids meals (breast of chicken potatoes/veg) looked ok, if very large. At least provided a healthier option than the usual kiddie fodder (also on the menu).

Room Tip: Suites, a good size, a long way from the lift. Both rooms had issues with window catches, the first...
