“DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL”

No matter what some sites may say this is not a 3 star hotel it is quite simply awful! arrived at 5 to check in to our room waited 10 mins at the 'reception table' for someone to appear, nobody did, eventually my boyfriend went into the bar to look for help at this time a member of staff walked out asked my name handed me a key and walked off. we went up to our room which was at the end of the hall beside an open fire escape and had to bat away several flys to open the door. The room was old fashioned and smelt awful, although we booked a double room for two adults we got two twin beds that were not even put together, the rooms overheat very quickly and its quite uncomfortable. The first morning we were woken up at 9 with cleaners at the door looking for wet towels for no reason (a situation that reoccured the second morning). The decor of the hotel is old and dirty and one of the steps on the stairs is even broken which clearly noone bothers to fix. The second night we were in a rush and made the mistake of eating in the hotel bar. It started off promising out starters arrrived in ten minutes, but 1 hour later with the starter plates still on the table there was no sign of the food we went to the bar and explained we had tickets to a show and had to leave soon to which they replied 'oh your finished your starters?', the food arrived and was hardly edible had clearly been heated in the microwave. The service was just as bad as the food. During our 2 day stay we over heard two seperate groups insisting on room changes and i am not suprised. This hotel is located near enough to walk to town, but, it is on a road full of gorgeous hotels and B&Bs so there is no reason to stay in this hotel at all. Avoid at all costs!!

“Defo not a 3 star hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 July 2010

We arrived at 3pm and were told our room wasnt ready. although we were given another room straight away i thought it was a bit much that 2 hrs after the official check in time they didnt see anything wrong with telling us our room wasnt ready. the room did not have tea/coffee facilities, it did not have a phone and it did not have a working hairdryer as advertised. i dont think the hair dryers in any of the room worked. after asking on the first day for a replacement hairdryer we had to ask again on the second day. the second morning someone knocked to get the dirty towels while we were in bed. when we went to have a shower an hr later, we discovered that they took the towels but hadnt replaced them..who does that???since we didnt have a phone it meant having to get dressed and go down and ask for towels. we were not told by anyone that when going out at nite you have to leave ur key at reception so when we arrived back at 3am we were outside knocking for at least 5 minutes. then the night porter told us we shd have left the key, no one had told us this already. ridiculous. the only good things about the place were the food and the staff were friendly, but other than that very badly run and smelly and not impressed at all with the whole experience. definately should not be classed as 3 star. and quite franly the hotel info is inacurate and false advertising really.

“Certainly not a 3 Star Hotel. Should be removed from "Hotels.com"site”

Badly in need of upgrading and renovations. No excuse for lack of cleanliness generally. We don't need this type of low standard in Irish Hotels and should not tolerate it!

“Shocking”

A group of 4 adults booked this "hotel" online for a 1 night stay.
When we arrived the warning signs were there - no reception desk, just a table in room behind bar.
Anyway we booked into our two rooms and very quickly found that these rooms were inhabitable.
Foul smell in both rooms, carpets old and stained furniture similar, windows and nett curtains had not been washed in a long time.
The only redeeming feature was the bathroom which was servicable.
We decided not to stay and I have to say that the young man at "reception" accepted our reason for not staying and agreed there would be no charge.
Luckily we found a wonderful guesthouse, the "Old Weir Lodge", on the Muckross Road.
Beautiful rooms excellent service and good choices for breakfast.
Would recommend this guesthouse and would certainly be better quality and value than many hotels.
