At Whitestrand Avenue in Lower Salthill quite close to Ward's Hotel which has one of the most charming pubs in Galway, you will find this B&B. I passed it hundreds of times while I lived in Galway a few years ago, and the exterior does not tell what the interior contains. Stella Faherty and her husband Liam is a lovely couple creating a family like and very caring atmosphere to the B&B. The rooms are fairly large (for a B&B) with en-suite bathrooms, mine, a single on the 2nd floor, had a nice view towards the Burren over the roof tops. The environment is quiet. The breakfast in the morning is nice and Stella is the most caring hostess.
It is one minutes walk to Ward's, it is a few minutes walk till you reach the Promenade along Galway Bay, which is a good way of looking at the wonderful view and get some excersice. Getting into Quay Street from Consilio takes 10 - 15 minutes depending on pace. You could combine the walk to the very end of the Promenade, at the golf course, return back and then walk through Claddagh, known for the rings. Walking up north you will reach UCHG, the hospital, and passing that there is the University on the other side of the street. From there it is just a 5 minute walk to the Cathedral. I do recommend to walk along the canals watching a lot of different birds and flowers and the green bushes and trees in the summer.
The breakfast is very good and the hospitality and generosity you experience along with Stella’s personality will engage you in a nice early morning craic. A good piece of advice would be that you leave either your address or your mobile number to Stella as that could be useful in the future. This advice is given from a personal experience.
