“beautiful place to stay”

myself and my partner went to galway for the weekend. We stayed in the Meyrick Hotel in Galway. It was a fantastic weekend. We arrived early and they minded our bags allowing us to enjoy Galway straight away. When we arrived back to the hotel our bags had been brought to our room. The Hotel itself is beautiful. The rooms are lovely double king size beds. The bathrooms were spotless with fantastic hot water at all times during the day and the water pressure was amazing. there was a grand piano in the lobby and each day someone played beautiful music on it which created a relaxing atmosphere. There were beaufiful open fires in the hotel which provided warmth and a lovely smell. The hotel bar is beautifully decorated with excellent bar staff. The staff in this hotel are excellent, very pleasent, polite and helpful. The breakfast was only amazing.
The hotel was also at a fantastic price and completely central to all of galways facillities so no taxie or bus requirer. The only downside for me was the hotel did not have a pool and the Canadian hot tub stiutated on the roof always had lots of people in it so i could not avail of this.
In the main, it was very pleasent and would definitly stay in this hotel again and again. I loved it.

Room Tip: Ask to stay in the rooms on the old side of the building as the extension rooms do not have a nice v...

“Great but a bit dated”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

Stayed here for 1 night with my husband. Staff so friendly and helpful. Valet parking an excellent service. First room we were allocated was very dated, small with old chipped furniture. However we were moved to a much larger, nicer room overlooking eyre square. Brilliant location. Would recommend this hotel.

“Excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

Stayed in the meyrick last september the 4th, bang in the middle of the city centre, bought the car with us but did'nt see it till leaving on the sunday. Used the spa facility also, found it to be very comfortable, with lovely view as its on the top floor. We stayed in a suite overlooking eyre square, even with the bustle of a city centre outside found the room quite and had a great nights sleep. This is old school luxury in a modern setting. The only crib i have is that i did'nt get offered tea or eggs with my breakfast the following morning as we were kinda seated and forgotten about. Otherwise perfect.

Room Tip: Try get a room facing onto eyre square.

“Great hotel”

We have just returned from a two night stay at this hotel and i must say the stay from start to finish was top class. Staff at the hotel was most helpful in everyway from the moment of arrival until the moment we left. We had booked a junior suite which consisted of 2 double beds, wwith a large living area and large bathroom. On the first day we dined in both the Oyster bar znd Oyster grill within the hotel and both succeeded to impress with both service and a quality of food. The hotel itself is situated right on Eyre Square so you are within walking distance of Shop Street and the main shoping area. Parking at the hotel is at a charge of 5euro per day for valet parking which is very convenient as you have secure parking.

“The Grand Old Lady of Galway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 December 2011
2
people found this review helpful

Hotel Meyrick in the heart of Galway at Eyre Square has been in around since the late 1800's in one form or another, and is thankfully one of only a handful of preserved structures left in Galway.
Location: Beside the train/bus station, on Eyre Square - you cannot get more central to the city than here.
Parking: Limited valet parking at hotel, discounted parking available in multi-storey approx. 3 minute walk away.
Service: Staff are excellent - in all areas they are friendly, polite and helpful.
Rooms: Given this is a listed building, some of room layouts are a bit quirky! In the height of summer, you open a window for air as there's no air conditioning. A room at the front has spectacular views over the square, but at weekends you'll have the sounds of late night revellers making their way home. A room at the back on a higher floor will have views over Galway Bay/Oranmore and on a clear day you can see as far as the Burren in Co Clare. Lower down however, you're looking over the bus & train station and it's not the prettiest.
Food: Breakfast was more than adequate - plenty of it and able to make items to request. Dinner was good, but not spectacular. The dining room however is beautiful as is their Ballroom for functions.
Value: Lots of deals available on their website and you are paying for the location, service and charm.

If you like your hotels shiney and new and without any old world charm, stay in one of the chains available - this place is for those that like the old world charm, with the warm welcome to greet you and cosset you while you stay and have tea or freshly brewed coffee served in old silver pots! Definitely worth a visit.
