My husband and I were traveling recently with our mother's throughout Ireland. I wish I had read the reviews before booking, but we really just called the hotel without doing too much research due to the great location. Now don't get me wrong, we knew we would be staying in the busiest part of town, but what we were not told over the phone when we were making our reservation (when we said we were traveling with our 70 year old mothers) was that we would be staying on the first floor of the hotel, just over a live band that was playing until 2 am. When we arrived and were told that, we asked if there were rooms on any other of the floors and were told no, although there was a sign out front advertising that they did have rooms available for the night. There was not much we could do but to give it a try since we had already booked with our credit card information.
The location was great, we were were located within walking distance of great shopping, pubs, and restaurants. We found the rooms to be clean, spacious, and comfortable. So there were some positive aspects to staying there. But we weren't able to sleep until the band had stopped playing.
While we were checking out the next morning, I suggested to the receptionist that they should really mention about the live band, especially if people note that they are traveling with family. She shrugged and said this was the lively part of town and we would be hard to find a more quiet spot in the area. In my opinion there is a big difference between staying in the lively part of town, hearing people at the pub or in the streets than a live band playing until the middle of the night. If we had been given this information when we booked, we would have chosen to go elsewhere in the area.
