“A Great B&B, exactly as advertised. Very Pleasant stay.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 August 2011

After having spent two and a half weeks touring Ireland with family, I stayed on and met a friend from Germany. We wanted a nice quiet waterfront B&B away from the hustle and bustle of the city. That's exactly what hosts, Tom and Colette provide.
The room was typical of Irish B&Bs in terms of size and amenities. Nice separate bathroom with shower.
June can be chilly at night in Ireland and our hosts were not stingy with the heat.
We were fairly well self motivated and self directed in terms of the touring we wanted to do, but Tom and Colette were forthcoming with good driving directions and a nearby restaurant suggestion (not in downtown Galway) when asked.

Breakfast was superb, with plenty of fresh items to choose from.

Our room had a view of the bay, which, by the way, is technically Rusheen Bay and not Galway Bay. Not that it mattered, it was gorgeous and serene, just the same.

Bit of a quirk with the booking, which I did through the Irish Tourist Board website. I paid a small deposit and expected to pay the remainder in cash upon checkout. Tom said he had no record of having received a deposit, however the amount he requested as being due was less than I had expected to pay, so I paid the man what he asked for and went on my way.

Room Tip: Had a bayview room at the top of the stairs, sorry I dont remember the room number.

“Excellent from start to finish.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 July 2011

Room: Very spacious and nicely appointed and overlooking the bay from our window. We had asked for twin bed and we got # 3 - and our room came with 1 double bed and 1 single bed so we had plenty of space. The bedroom and bathroom were spotless clean.

Breakfast: Eggs I ordered was perfectly cooked, I hate overcooked eggs and this was perfect, not too runny and not too dry. The orange juice was the best I had so far, it was clearly freshly squeezed with loads of pulp, which I love. The connaught offered the usual Irish breakfast and buffet table of fruits, cereals and yoghurt but what was unique about this breakfast for me was Collettes' home made rhubarb - I love rhubarb so this really hit the spot :) They also offered fresh croissants, toast and brown bread.

Hosts: We received a very warm and nice welcome by Collette and she even helped us to make a dinner reservation at Gourmet Tart Co. in Salthill. We got to meet Tom in the morning during breakfast and he was a perfect host during breakfast.

House & Location: As usual there is a guest lounge downstairs we could use and I can imagine how cozy it must be in the winter when fireplace is on. The B&B is located on the western end of Salthill with free parking. We don't mind walking a lot so we left the car there when we went to Salthill for dinner, it was a leisurely walk along the waterfront and took us about 30-35 minutes. It would only be a few minutes drive by car to Salthill though and about 10 minutes drive from Galway City Centre.

Internet: They offer free internet via wireless company called "Free hot spot" which you need to sign in to every 20 minutes or so. There is no limit on how many times you can sign in though.

If you're looking at staying in the Connaught you will find yourself well treated with the wonderful Irish hospitality we came to love. Tome & Colette are good people who clearly do their best to make your stay comfortable.

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 3 - we can't speak for the other rooms in the house

“Very nice!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 July 2011

Tom & Collette were wonderful hosts. They made us reservations for the Aran Islands and recommeded an exit route when we left the area to avoid the construction. Breakfast was made to order and quite good. We had a lovely visit with them and really enjoyed talking with them. It was a long walk into Salthill but it was beautiful weather and we did not mind it at all!

“Warm and welcoming”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 June 2011

Colette and Tom were most gracious and welcoming. The rooms were beautifully appointed and spotlessly clean. Even the bedrooms in the back looked into a lovely garden. Breakfast was excellent. Tom and Colette provided great directions to help us by-pass heavy traffic areas. They recommended a wonderful restaurant 5 min. away. We had a family group of 11 and Colette had everyone checked in within minutes still providing gracious service. I would highly recommend this B&B.

When my friend and I arrived it seemed like a nice place but was a bit far away from the main area of Salthill. We went out late that evening, when we were preparing to leave the following morning the owner arrived at the door and demanded that we pay for a second night because there was fake tan on a towel and on the beds. She had gone into our room whilst we were away and left the door unlocked and also took my friends car keys. To avoid any trouble we said that we would pay her an extra €70, and yet she still continued to row with us. I would never recommend this place to anybody, it was such a horrible experience and it ruined our weekend. Our privacy was invaded and our belongings were put at risk of been taken, we were overcharged and were treated like thieves. I have never met somebody as rude and confrontational working in the area of hospitality. There are far better places to be found closer to Salthill, I know that because you will NOT find a place worse that 'The Connaught'.
