“Does the job for a night out”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 July 2011

Stayed at the Kingsvalley for a dinner/night out at the Greyhound Track. It cost 11euros each way for a taxi to the track or into town. Room was clean but very small. There was a group of us staying and I saw some of their rooms. Some of the hotel rooms are large and have windows that open to the outside. Other rooms are very small, like the one I was in, where one side of the double bed is against the wall, and the "windows" look into a hallway rather than the outside. The only complaints I had with our room is that we couldn't open any windows and there was no vent/air system to get some air into the room so it was very hot and stale air in the room. Plus, the walls really are very thin, we could hear every conversation being had coming down the hall and even in the neighboring room.

For 70euros you can't have too high of expectations, the room was clean and did the job for the few hours sleep we had there. The next cheapest hotels I could find in Galway were 130 + per night and when you are only there for a couple hours on a night out, the Kingsvalley worked just fine. If there's anyway to reserve one of the nicer big rooms, it would be a lovely place to stay and the breakfast was nice, it was made to order. Plus they have free parking behind the hotel.

“Not near the city!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 June 2011

Booked into this hotel for a weekend in Galway City. The hotel is very far from Eyre's Square, the main pub area costing us €12-€15 each way. The weather was awful during our stay, heavy rain all weekend so we spent most of our money on taxi's! (4 trips a day starts to add up!) I would not advise using this hotel if you are looking for a boozy weekend in the city.

Had trouble with this hotel before even heading down here, very poor communication between staff and was very poor customer service. Only person trained seems to be Ailis although staff seemed to be short during our stay as she seemed to be helping all over the hotel. She is an good worker that is wasted in a hotel like this.

Very bad layout of a hotel, had trouble getting back in at 1am in the morning, two people with no credit standing at the front door that was locked with a phone number on it, eventually found the side door was open which was very worrying as it lead straight up to our bedrooms, had me concerned about security of the place.

Getting from bar to bedrooms was a nightmare, had two options, one: walk through a very packed room of young people all glamed up at a 21st - and us in our casuals! i think not, or leave out the front door of the bar(as the smoking area gate was locked) and get soaked to the skin running in the rain round to the not very security concious side door!

Bad odour in corriders, stains on carpets....cringe worthy.

Overall a bad experience, while it is cheap its cheap for a reason.

“go to eat, dont go to stay!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 May 2011

the first room we were given had a smell of sewage from the bathroom which was immediately evident on entering the room.we were given another room without any member of staff even coming to investigate which leads me to believe they were already aware of it. the rooms had the appearance of being very nice, however the double bed was very small. the tv was so small and so far away from the bed it was impossible to read any text on the screen. the bathroom while looking very smart, had no bath, no visible sign of heating very little surface to keep toiletries on. it was not possible to maintain a comfortable temperature in the shower and the shower head spewed water in every direction and again there was nowhere to keep shower gel etc. the provided shower gel seemed to contain water, i hope it was water! the room had one very small window which could be opened, there was a balcony but the door was firmly locked which i would presume to be against fire regulations. on the upside, the restaurant on site was excellent and the staff in the bar and restaurant were very friendly.

Room Tip: stay somewhere else but do visit the restaurant

“Best and Very Friendly Staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 March 2011

I book a large group(24) into hotel for a weekend and had a amazing stay from start to finish. All the staff from Linda in Front Office, Dave and Tristan in the bar, Ciara and Sam on the floor you couldnt find nicer staff in Ireland. From the moment I rang to my make my booking, the Girls on reception couldnt do enough for me. They where so helpful in telling me where to bring my group. And everyone in the bar where brilliant. Everyone in my group where really happy and would def. stay here again when we come to Galway. Well done to all.

“So reasonable!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 November 2010

Went to Galway for one night for a fun night! Booked this hotel as it was the cheapest we could find and we were delighted with the hotel. Very accessible and easy to find with plenty of parking. Bedrooms were very very basic but bar was nice and breakfast was fab!
