“Great Weekend Treat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

Have just come back from a weekend break in this hotel. I am a repeat visitor and was immediately upgraded to a luxury room on arrival. The staff coudn't have been more helpful and friendly. While the drinks in the bar areas are higher than normal - we didnt mind as we were in beautiful surroundings, great buzz, very attentive staff and no complaints when we were having "one for the road" at 2.45 am!! Fab breakfasts on both mornings. We had dinner on the saturday night which was superb and was made even more special by the fact that the provided a mini birhday cake with happy birthday in chocolate on the plate for my friend - I had mentioned when booking that she was celebrating a special birthday. I will definitely be back.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of hotel have better view

stayed for 2 nights on the hotels 6th birthday offer of 120pps for 2 nights B&B and a pass for the thermal suite. This is definitely not a 5 star hotel. have been in 4 star hotels which have been better.
Good points: reception and dining room staff very friendly and helpful. Fab breakfast!
Bad points: drinks are way over priced - try the huntsman across the road. No atmosphere in the lounges or bar. Bedrooms are very basic with very poor quality toiletries.
Wouldn't go back, unless i got it at a knock down price!
TIP: dont go unless u get a special offer... its not worth the money!

“Really enjoyed our stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

We recently spent a weekend in the G as a birthday present. It rained the whole weekend so we were confined to the hotel but couldn't think of a better place to spend a couple of days. We were repeat guests and were upgraded to a luxury room on arrival. All of the staff were extremely friendly and able to cater for all our needs. The accomodation was excellent and we really enjoyed using the spa. Our package included 1 dinner in the restaurant which was fantastic. The food was great and cocktails were really good. We'd definitely recommend it for a weekend.

“Save your hard earned money and stay elsewhere”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

Looking beyond the location which is not great given the hotel is located near a major roundabout and requires a taxi trip to get into town I still can not recommend the g hotel to visitors to Galway. I sent the email below to the Manager at the g hotel in late September 2011 and never received a response. Great 5 star customer service! Save your hard earned money and stay elsewhere in the city (Radisson is a good safe option).

Dear Mr. ###

My husband and I (Ms ### & Mr ###) were guests at your hotel on the ## August 2011 for a one night stay. As regular guests at other 5 star hotels it is disappointing to report that on our stay at your hotel we did not receive the “first class service” or “special Irish hospitality” which your website boasts.

Specifically, we did not receive a turn down service on the night of our visit and the following morning I had hot coffee spilt over my lap and unfinished breakfast. Our waitress simply stating that she was “very busy” is hardly satisfactory, although the Duty Manager did later provide us with a replacement table cloth.

As hopefully you can imagine, we were extremely disappointed with our experience at your hotel and decided to highlight this at check out time. I explained our issues to the Receptionist who promised to follow up with housekeeping on the lack of a turn down service and revert with an explanation to either myself or my husband. She even went so far as to ensure that the contact number she had for us was correct, which led us to believe that a follow up call would indeed be forthcoming. Needless to say we received no such call which compounds our disappointment with the quality of service which we received on our stay.

I appreciate the above may seem inconsequential; however our issue is with the fact the g hotel is being marketed as one of the top 5 star hotels in Ireland, which clearly does not tally with our experience.

As a native of Galway it is disappointing to report that our stay fell significantly short of expectations given my view that there is no reason that hotel standards in Galway city should not match, or surpass, those found in other cities, both within Ireland and abroad.

Regards,
###

“The coolest design hotel in Ireland”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

The exterior doesn't quite live up to the interior.

The G Hotel is one of the coolest design hotels I've been to. It's phenomenally trendy. Service was also incredible, attentive without being over the top. If you'd like to engage, the staff are only too happy to help.

The rooms are cool and calm and there are nice extras like a fantastic free collection of DVD's to borrow, a great cocktail bar in the evening and a superb restaurant, although the eggs Benedict in the morning left something to be desired.

One pit fall. You have to pay for the Spa. It's not included in the price of your room. Given you pay five-star prices for a room it's unfortunate, although be sure to go, if only to see the amazing Philip Tracey installation on the ceiling.
