We just had to write this review. We had plans to stay at Petra House; but we were flying stand-by from the US and could not confirm our reservation ahead of time, arriving at Shannon without accommodations. With no way to contact Petra House, we headed straight for it, only to find out that they were sold out.

Any normal person would do what Mary did and graciously apologize for something that was clearly not her fault at all; but she did what many do not do. She showed empathy and immediately got on the phone to both recommend and to secure other accommodations, all this while ushering some of her own paying guests out to a restaurant reservation and checking folks in who, indeed, had advanced reservations (again, we had none).

This is the sign of a true professional; and based on this experience alone we have sent two of our friends to stay at Petra House B&B.

Hurray, Rick Steves for including Petra House in your recommendations for Galway! Petra House is that perfect combination of clean (no, immaculate), accommodating, well-located B&B's. Frank & Joan are awesome hosts. They are as present and helpful as you need or want....very knowledgeable and friendly. The breakfast is AMAZING, easily rivaling any 5-star hotel's. Don't be thrown by the location on a map. A three minute walk and your in the heart of the historic district. The beds & linens are luxury. The bathrooms are recently renovated. I can't say enough. Truly a perfect B&B experience. (Joan, your scones will be made for Christmas breakfast!)

We spent two nights at the Petra House, hosted by Frank and Joan. The room was very adequate, but the parking was a challenge. However, Frank was extremely accommodating in moving the cars around so one could get out. The breakfast was very good and Joan's scones were wonderful.

The Petra House B&B is a First Class establishment. Frank and Joan are the perfect hosts and catered to our every need. I plan on future trips to Galway and will not hesitate to stay at the Petra House again. As a matter of fact, I will plan my trip around their availability - that's how much I enjoyed my stay there. It is extremely clean, well kept and maintained, and very quiet. Breakfast was delicious and quickly prepared and Joan's brown bread is to die for! It is a 5 to 10 minute walk to Galway's city centre - very convenientally located. There is ample parking as well. I would wholeheartedly recommend this B&B for your stay in Galway.
