Stayed in a variety of lodgings during recent week in ireland, and this was by far the best. Very quiet, spotless, comfortable place in Salthill section of Galway. Berna is a terrific host, very helpful with recommendations, great sense of humor, very caring and accommodating, and serves a wonderful breakfast (the best we had anywhere in Ireland -- made the others all downers buy comparison). I would give her more stars if there were that option ... her place is that good. We recommend highly. Looking at other reviews, yes it's a bit tricky to find at first, no problem in showers in two rooms we occupied (changed to Sunflower room when it became available but other room was also fine), and the electric showers in both gave great plentiful hot water.

Berna is a treasure and the Devondell is such a wonderful place to stay. The Breakfast is so good, great coffee, homemade bread, fresh squeezed juice and fresh fruit and then cook to order a hot breakfast. Keeps you going through your day of visiting the great places that Berna recommends. We also went to the amazing italian restaurant close by as well as the French restaurant in Dublin that Berna also knew about. Berna provides one of the best B&B experiences ever. Yes it is a bit tricky to find, but well worth it. The room was comfortable and the house welcoming with a Baileys by the fire in the evening. Would recommend to anyone going to Galway..

My wife and stayed with Berna in her well maintained home last month. She was most helpful in many ways. Her Breakfast was one for the books. Plenty to eat and excellent.

When we first arrived, she gave us an option of what we wanted for the main course and was told us the balance would be on her table. I was a little disapointed in hearing this as I assumed that the "balance would be toast and perhaps some juice. It is much much more. Fresh baking and fruit as well as toast and juice. She is one great cook.

Our room was small, but the bed comfortable. The bathroom shower was too small to take a shower, but we were there only for one day, so it was not a problem. I will take a small bathroom for a grand breakfast. You should as well.

Devondell may be a bit tricky to find (but what isn't with Irish roads driven by an American), but it's worth the trip. Located near the end of a cul-de-sac, it provided our family with a welcome respite as Berna makes you quickly feel right at home. We can echo other reviewers is saying the breakfast spread which includes associated fruits, breads, muffins and yogurt followed by choice of "gourmet" entrees means you never leave Devondell hungry in the morning. Her recommendation to visit Connemara vs. Aran Islands when the weather was a bit iffy worked up well. In addition, her knowledge of local restaurants (we loved the local Italien place you can walk to) and even places to park for free near downtown Galway proved spot on and very helpful. Only issue we experienced on our visit was the shower in one of our bedrooms lacked hot water, but this will not deter us from including Devondell on our next Irish vacation itinerary.
