“Go anywhere but here!”

As a current student living in Corrib Village at present I thought I should give my point of view on Corrib Village.
Firstly, the staff. The staff at reception treat us students like dirt, they look down upon us and do nothing to make our year-long stay here easier in any way. In particular, I have found the Academic Coordinator, Daniel Cunningham to be a snide, unhelpful and extremely unpleasant individual who, if he takes a dislike to you, for any small reason at all, will proceed to make your life over the next year a living nightmare. Some of the security personnel are lovely people and understand that if we make their life easy they will look out for us. However, the vast majority of them are just as bad as the afore mentioned Mr. Cunningham.
Secondly, the actual accommodation itself. Where do I start!?! On arrival, the inside looks very basic, but quite clean. I paid (an extortionate amount of money) for a single ensuite room. Upon arrival I found the mattress in my room to be full of stains, puke marks and footprints. The duvet they had provided had not been cleaned since the end of last year as it still had pubic hair and puke stains all over it. The pillow provided had blood marks on it and yet again was destroyed with stains. Now, nearing the end of my first semester in Corrib Village, I realise the magnitude of the mistake of deciding to live here this year. There is large amounts of mould growing all around the windows, my room is impossible to heat as the vent in my room cannot be closed and the room gets unbearably cold if there is any wind blowing at all. As decided not to share my apartment with any of my friends and left it up to Corrib to choose my housemates, I am now stuck with the three messiest people I have ever encountered. They have broken everything in the apartment from chairs to the couch to paintings on the wall, which reception then charge ridiculous amounts of money to repair. I strongly advise sharing with someone you know if for some ridiculous reason you decide to live here for the year. As i have found, college is no walk in the park, hard work is needed and if you live here, that will certainly not happen as the party atmosphere that surrounds this place ridiculous, meaning the place resembles a zoo at night-time. If you are thinking of coming here for Corrib's famous parties, then don't. The novelty soon wears off and sooner or later you are going to want to study, which is next to impossible in Corrib Village.
Finally, my recommendations. There are far better places you could stay than the hell-hole that is Corrib Village. Gort na Coiribe and Cúirt na Coiribe is also full of first years, has better facilities, cleaner, nicer apartments, and is quite cheaper compared to Corrib Village. I hope that this review helps students make an informed decision about their accommodation for their first year at college.
Sincerely, a rather disgruntled inhabitant of Corrib Village.

“Basic and clean”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 August 2011

Travelled alone on the way to Aran islands and spent one night in Corrib Village. Booked through hotels.com and price was 19€.

Distance to town center is approx. 3km, but easy walk, on the river side. Room was clean student room (uni campus) with bed, desk, tv (bad reception), own bathroom with shower. Bed was ok, had enough warm water for shower. Wi-fi is available all around the campus for free (corrib village), but you can get appartment specific 24h wi-fi for 3€. Did not understand the practical difference, so I recommend to try the free one first.

Breakfast was simple continental: tea, coffee, cereals, canned fruits, scones and bread, juice.

I can recommend for those who do not require too much for their accommodation.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your positive review, we are delighted that you enjoyed your stay here. I notice that you mentioned the walk into town. I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed the river walk but we do offer a complimentary shuttle bus for guests to use to get into town should they prefer this to walking. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

“Basic, simple, all you need, especially during busy times.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 August 2011

I booked through the I-Tourist center in Galway. I arrived in Galway the week after the Galway Races, only to find out that was the busiest week and everyone seemed to be booked. Corrib Village is actually several buildings of dorms a few miles from the city center. But, they do offer a free shuttle for most of the day. I stayed there twice during my trip, once for 30euro, once for 50euro. For 30euro, definitely what you expect - clean room, bed, bathroom, access to common family room and kitchen (each hallway is like its own suite- 4 separate bedrooms with separate keys, all with shared access to common areas).Nothing fancy. Simple breakfast included. For 50euro, not a great value. But, it was right off the N59, and it was getting late so I wanted to find a place. The price varies based on how booked they are with different tournaments in town. If you have a car you can park outside your building, without one, you may walk a few blocks to your building. Wi-fi is available, but not free. I think it was 3euro a day. A good place to stay when you haven't pre-booked anywhere else and just want someplace dry and comfortable.. This is not the place to stay if you are looking for cozy comforts, views, or personalized attention.

Room Tip: If you don't have a car, ask for a building near the front desk.

“great value basic accomodation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 August 2011

stayed during Galway races. Basic accomodation but clean and hygienic. Staff are friendly and helpful. Great value at 30 euro. Downside is that its on the outside of Galway city, breakfast room was extremely overcrowded the following morning and cant check in until after 4pm but there is a bungalow where you can get changed while you wait for your room to be ready. Would recommend for a low cost weekend with friends

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your positive review, we are delighted that you enjoyed your stay here and that we you found our staff to be accomodating.

I notice that you found our location to be a bit too far from town. We have a complimentary shuttle bus which runs from outside our reception into Eyre Square, returning from the Tourist Information Office on Forster Streeet.

We look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

“Shambolic”

I arrived here to a location a very long way from the city centre unless you are driving to find a mouldy room with a ripped sheet with a foot print on it. My usual trusty mobile broadband which has never before failed me did not work here due to such a weak signal.

When I reported these problems and the broadband issue the solution was to send some to spray furniture polish in my room and open a window, change the sheets and charge me to use their WIFI. When I said surely they would not charge me for the WIFI considering the problems I had, they said no they had to charge for it. Almost everywhere in Ireland still has free wifi so this was a bit of a puzzle to me.

Generally the accomodation is student accommodation which has not been updated in a very long time. The staff are very friendly and the breakfast is adequate.

I did not expect much coming here due to the cheap price so I expected to merely get what i paid for but sometimes you don't even get that unfortunately.
