As a current student living in Corrib Village at present I thought I should give my point of view on Corrib Village.
Firstly, the staff. The staff at reception treat us students like dirt, they look down upon us and do nothing to make our year-long stay here easier in any way. In particular, I have found the Academic Coordinator, Daniel Cunningham to be a snide, unhelpful and extremely unpleasant individual who, if he takes a dislike to you, for any small reason at all, will proceed to make your life over the next year a living nightmare. Some of the security personnel are lovely people and understand that if we make their life easy they will look out for us. However, the vast majority of them are just as bad as the afore mentioned Mr. Cunningham.
Secondly, the actual accommodation itself. Where do I start!?! On arrival, the inside looks very basic, but quite clean. I paid (an extortionate amount of money) for a single ensuite room. Upon arrival I found the mattress in my room to be full of stains, puke marks and footprints. The duvet they had provided had not been cleaned since the end of last year as it still had pubic hair and puke stains all over it. The pillow provided had blood marks on it and yet again was destroyed with stains. Now, nearing the end of my first semester in Corrib Village, I realise the magnitude of the mistake of deciding to live here this year. There is large amounts of mould growing all around the windows, my room is impossible to heat as the vent in my room cannot be closed and the room gets unbearably cold if there is any wind blowing at all. As decided not to share my apartment with any of my friends and left it up to Corrib to choose my housemates, I am now stuck with the three messiest people I have ever encountered. They have broken everything in the apartment from chairs to the couch to paintings on the wall, which reception then charge ridiculous amounts of money to repair. I strongly advise sharing with someone you know if for some ridiculous reason you decide to live here for the year. As i have found, college is no walk in the park, hard work is needed and if you live here, that will certainly not happen as the party atmosphere that surrounds this place ridiculous, meaning the place resembles a zoo at night-time. If you are thinking of coming here for Corrib's famous parties, then don't. The novelty soon wears off and sooner or later you are going to want to study, which is next to impossible in Corrib Village.
Finally, my recommendations. There are far better places you could stay than the hell-hole that is Corrib Village. Gort na Coiribe and Cúirt na Coiribe is also full of first years, has better facilities, cleaner, nicer apartments, and is quite cheaper compared to Corrib Village. I hope that this review helps students make an informed decision about their accommodation for their first year at college.
Sincerely, a rather disgruntled inhabitant of Corrib Village.
