I cannot speak highly enough of Kinlay House. It was very clean and had a pleasant ambience, and the layout was really more like that of a hotel than hostel. The kitchen was extremely well maintained (I actually witnessed it being cleaned every day) and it had a very nice, big common area. The location is perfect; right off the centre square in Galway and within a couple of blocks from the bus station. What stood out most though, was the customer service. Not only were all the staff very welcoming, they made tour arrangements and great recommendations of pubs. When my friend and I decided we wanted to extend our stay there to 5 nights (we loved it that much), the manager went above and beyond accommodating us, as the hostel was quite full. Definitely a home away from home, and I find myself comparing all subsequent hostels to this one - none measure up! Definitely stay here.
