“Budget accommodation”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2011

Located on Merchants Road which is about 2 - 3 mins away walk from Eyre Square.

I spent there two nights. Though the hostel is very nice and staff friendly and helpful, I had a very bad experince with my room mates (which I didn't know) in a 6 bed ensuite room. I didn't mind they came back more than tipsy but I did mind that they were allowed to bring some strangers to the room from a night out in some of local pubs. Later on during the night I was awaken by two couples having sex (with the ladies brought up from a pub). I tried to get out of the room but was not allowed as someone was asleep by the door and I could not move that person. So you can imagine, how terrified I was. I didn't sleep for the rest of the night and at six in the morning I packed my staff and thankfully got away from the room. The staff at the desk seemed worried. After all explanation what had happened I was asked why I didn't leave the room. Well, the night receptionist didn't obviously give a damn and didn't care.
It's a pitty because it is a very nice budget hostel but after experience like this, next time when I am in Galway I book my accommodation somewhere else.

“Great spot!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 December 2011

Went with a large group (25+) of friends from college. Great location. Hostel was clean. Showers were warm. They had a lovely common area so we could watch the x factor and have a few drinks before heading out.
No curfew/security checks.
Elevator to all floors.
Communal toilets/showers well looked after.
Adequate bed clothing.
Warm room (we slept with window open in November!)

“Great friendly hostel,excellent location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2011

I stayed in a private twin en-suite and was delighted with the entire experience. The hostel is in a fantastic central location. The reception area is colourful and lovely, and the friendly staff put all travellers at ease to sit and relax. Our room was spacious and clean (although, while towels were provided, there was no handsoap!Ew!). There was some noise late at night but I didn't mind this as I was out quite late so wasn't disturbed by it (I think this is the perfect hostel if you're planning on hitting the pubs!).I wasn't up in time for breakfast- my only complaint is that 10.30 is far too early for check-out- if they extended this to noon Kinlay House would really be unbeatable! However, we were allowed to leave our luggage until later in the day and even stay in the lounge for the day if we wished. This was a totally relaxed, friendly hostel and I strongly recommend it to people looking for a good base for a pub-based trip to Galway!

“Clean, friendly, and location-perfect.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2011

Kinlay House was my favorite hostel on my tour of Ireland. Its central location makes all of Galway easily accessible. The staff was friendly, prompt and professional, and the rooms and common areas were clean and well-appointed. Beds were comfortable and bug-free.

Very large bathrooms accommodated all travelers well, and appeared to be cleaned frequently. One of the showers ran cold, but switching to another yielded perfectly warm water. Showers are of the push-button variety with no temperature control, in individual stalls with changing area.

The Kitchen area was better than expected. Breakfast was the standard fare of toast and jam, cereal, tea and coffee, laid out attractively. Dishes are cleaned for you.

There is an attended, locked luggage storage room for early arrivals and late departures. An elevator is hidden away through a doorway on the first floor - we discovered this after carrying our luggage up three flights of stairs.

Overall, a wonderful experience, and an oasis compared to many other hostels on our trip.
