“Sheer Incompetence Jeopardising Guest Safety”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2011

Unfortunately I booked thid B&B before I read the reviews. What a mistake!! The service initially was quite friendly and although the room itself was shabby with stained carpet and walls it was reasonably clean. However there did not seem to be any heat on and the room was a little cool. My big problem arose when I returned to the B&B after a night out. My key did not work in the outside door. I rang the doorbell and waited for a few moments but there was no response. I noticed a sign on the door advising guests to ring a telephone number if they did not get a response so I rang the number. The person who answered the phone told me that I was obviously at the wrong house. When I told her that I was at the correct house she told me that there was no reason why the key should't work and that there wasn't anybody there to let me in. I explained that I tried in a number of times but to no avail. She then told me to take a key out of the flowerpot beside the door. When I asked her which one (there were three!) she accused me of shouting at her. I looked in all 3 flowerpots but no key! She said that she would have to send someone over but it would take 15-20 minutes. After 30 minutes of standing in sub zero temperatures nobody had yet arrived. In those 30 minutes I was approached by a drunk asking me to go to a party with him, groups walking home from pubs and nightclubs shouting comments/jokes at me. I called the number again and was told (yet again!) that there was no reason why the key shouldn't work and that someone was on the way but she couldn't say when he would get here. Almost 15 minutes later a man arrived, put my key in the door and of course it didn't work and he had to use his own key to let us in. When I eventually got to my room the heating had obviously not been switched on for the night and I could not get to sleep as I was so cold having stood outside the house for almost an hour in freezing conditions and almost equally freezing conditions in the room. When I checked out in the morning I was not even offered an apology. In fact the person on reception took my key to the door to once again confirm that it didn't work. She simply shrugged and said that somebody must have switced it. I accept that things can go wrong but it was the manner in which this problem was dealt with that was disgraceful. I was more or less told that it was my fault that the key didn't work. For any business owner to leave a woman standing on her own for almost an hour late at night putting her safety at risk due to their own incompetence is not acceptable. The management of this B&B need to take a serious look at their customer service policy because at the moment it has absolutely nothing going for it. I cannot advise travellers strongly enough not to stay at this pathetic excuse for a B&B.

“A Truly Irish Welcome”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2010

I have been visiting the very lively city of Galway famous for its restaurants and many Irish music pubs for over 17 years and during all these visits I have stayed at Ashford Manor as have many of my friends and have always received a truly Irish Welcome. The friendliness of this establishment greets you as you walk into Reception. During all these years I have always found my accommodation to be spotlessly clean, well decorated, towels changed every day, comfortable beds and of course clean bed linen. The Owner of Ashford Manor has an excellent knowledge of Co Galway and can give you advice of areas of interest, both historical, geographical and of course entertainment. During my years staying at Ashford Manor I have never encountered mould, rooms full of flies ‘ etc, etc. I agree with the reviewer who reported that to stay at Ashford Manor was ‘a truly enjoyable experience’ and hopefully I will be visiting Ashford Manor for many more years.

“Shameful Guesthouse standard in Galway”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2010

I recently stayed in this guesthouse / dump and it was really terrible.Myself & my partner are not fussy at all but the room was absolutely disgusting. The curtain pole was put up completely sloping and so obviously so and the curtains were hanging off the pole where all the clips were broken.Behind the toilet door was covered in dust and looked like it had never been cleaned. The toilet seat was cracked and broken and I was afraid to even sit on it in case I`d catch something!! Where there meant to be lights, the bulbs were either missing or broken and the wardrope was covered in stains and tan marks.
What I cannot understand is the advertisment this place has on the internet is complete lies...flat screen tv (a shabby portable on a dodgy wall stand),5* linen on the beds (definately not!),complimentary mineral water & newspaper (nowhere to be seen) and a walk in warddrope (which was actually a really old fashioned wardrope with the door half hanging off) The corners of the floor in the room were filthy also there were 3 flies in our room when we checked into it.
I never ever bother giving reviews but this place was so terrible that I just had to let people know.We were meant to say 2 nights but left first thing in the morning after one night and dare not even eat the breakfast there!

“Enjoyable Experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 July 2010

Stayed in Ashford Manor a few months ago and had a truly enjoyable experience. Great Location – two mins walk from the vibrant city of Galway. Owner and Staff very helpful and provided me with lots of information on the best places to see, eat etc. Value for money, clean and everything I needed was either in the bed or provided on request. Generous breakfast and lots of variety. Overall an enjoyable experience and would highly recommend Ashford Manor.

“Total Craphole! Had to leave immediately”

This place was nice out front and on the website...and I was totally decieved. It smelled of mold throughout the building, stains all over the carpet, sagging beds, and moldy shower. Flies everywhere. I had to get out of there and we stayed somewhere else. The hosts were really nice but they need to completely remodel the place if they want to keep their business alive.
