“Very Pleasant Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

We stayed for a 3 night break in early January. From the moment we arrived we were made feel very welcome by the receptionist on duty. We had booked a superior room and the room we got was large, clean, comfortable and nicely furnished. Breakfast, cold food from buffet or hot from the kitchen, was good but not exceptional. We had dinner in the restaurant on one evening, again the food was nice but nothing special. Restaurant staff were very helpful and pleasant on every occasion. Overall we had a pleasant and enjoyable stay.
The hotel is well located both for access to Galway City and for easy access to Connemara with convenient free parking in the grounds.
There were a few minor irritants which the hotel might address:-
1. My wife asked for natural yougurt at breakfast on the first day (listed on the menu) but they had none. They had none on days two or three either
2. We wanted to watch RTE 2 television on our first evening - it wasn't available. It still wasn't available when we were leaving.
3. While the hotel has lots of sitting space for guests, most spaces were too cold to sit in when we were there. Only the Bar was warm but it appeared to have sky sports on 24x7

Room Tip: The extra charge for our superior room was quite nominal and the room was lovely.

Thank you for taking the time to review our property. I was pleased to read that you enjoyed your stay with us. In regards to the minor isssues you had while staying with us:
1) We more often than not do have natural yogurt on offer for our cold buffet so i do sincerely apologise for there not being any available to you while you were staying with us.
2) In relation to the issue you had with rte 2 not being available to you, i have made contact with our tv provider and have had this issue rectified.
3) With the heating issue in the seating areas around the hotel we do have to turn on the air conditioning (which is more than likely the reason you found some areas cold) as some guests find it too hot so it is a bit of a balancing act to try and keep everyone happy in regards to heating.
Again I was glad to read that you enjoyed your stay here at the Westwood and if you plan on making a return visit please contact me directly at barsupervisor@westwoodhousehotel.com.

Kind regards

“Just super for a wedding reception”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

Having worked in the hospitality industry for over 20 years, and being a "foodie" I was quite fussy about our wedding venue.
From the moment we walked into the Westwood Hotel we were sold. Every aspect of the weekend was arranged for us, and everything was just perfect. I could fault nothing, rooms, staff, food, helping with other arrangements for the day, all above and beyond my expectations. The canapés on arrival were super, the food and wine at the dinner were fabulous & extremely plentiful. The day after the wedding we had a post wedding party and again the food provided was perfect for the occasion.
We are delighted that we selected The Westwood to hold our wedding reception, and would like to thank Dave, Diane and all the staff for everything they did for us.

“family weekend (wedding)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

this was a great hotel to both stay in and to attend a wedding in . we had my brothers wedding here in september and everything was perfect , nothing was any bother and we had our 3 kids with us and they were as welcome as we were, which sometimes is not the case in hotels . the food all weekend was of a very high standard and the wedding service is brilliant . a gem of a hotel only a few minutes out of the city centre .

“Lucky accident!”

In Galway on business at The University so the Westwood was recommended as is the right side of city. Charming rooms nice & tastefully done I got an exec room for less than €80 free wi-fi in the room. I ate in the bar with a client and were impressed try the lamb pie very tasty. casual and nice seemed to have a lot of local people or regular guests everone seemed to know everyone else. I had no breakfast so I can't comment but the hotel really has a nice country charm close to the city with free parking.

Room Tip: Ask for Exec room lots of space!!

“Beautiful, but lousy internet!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

The Westwood Hotel is pretty far from the Galway city centre—about 10-15 minutes by cab. There were several parties, weddings and whatnot happening during my stay there, but that may have been just because it was around New Year's. The staff was extremely efficient helpful, and booked tours to Connemara and the Cliffs of Moher with the bus picking us up at the hotel.

It's a wonderful, beautiful hotel—the rooms are amazing, very spacious, with great beds. The shower has a weirdly erratic flow. Breakfast is very good; the hotel restaurant is not particularly mind-blowing, but it's okay.

One drawback: in my room (#120) the wi-fi simply did not work. They said that only part of the hotel had wi-fi coverage, and offered to give me a different room with wi-fi (#129)—but even in this second room my computer and gadgets couldn't get a stable connection. I had to settle for using ethernet (cable). Strangely enough, several ports seemed to be blocked: while some sites were accessible, I couldn't log in to AIM, MSN, gtalk or Battle.net, check my email or download any files. Very irritating!

Dear PriscillaD,

Thank you for your review of your stay at The Westwood.

I was pleased to read your positive comments on so many aspects of your stay including:
- our staff
- the upkeep of the hotel
- your guest room and
- breakfast

I was sorry to read of your issues with an erratic shower and assure you that this issue has been added to maintenance list for it to be attended to. I was sorry also to read of your issues with the WIFI connection. As per my recent posts on reviews herein I would admit that we have been having some issues with our WIFI provision. The issues arose on foot of us changing our supplier for this service but I am confident that the problems have have now been identified and that we will have a permanent fix in place over the coming days to alleviate the signal outages being experienced. Perhaps you can be our "tester" when next in Galway in which case I would be happy to have you contact me directly to arrange your next stay via generalmanager@westwoodhousehotel.com.

Kind regards,
Dave Kelly
