“Good Location”

Because we had a car, we didn't want to stay in Dublin so opted to stay in Dun Laoghaire, taking the train into the city. Windsor Lodge is within a block of the train station and within walking distance of several good restaurants. I recommend spending a little bit more for the largest room with a view of the water; while the bathroom is right outside the door, there is a privacy screen which makes it as though it is in the same room. The parking lot is also very, very tight and cannot fit more than 4 small cars so be prepared.

“Another nice stay at Windsor Lodge”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 February 2010

After a wonderful stay at Windsor Lodge last year, I decided to take my 11 year old daughter to Ireland, and the Windsor Lodge, for her winter break from school. It was just as I remembered it being. Friendly, cozy, and welcoming. We went to Dalkey Castle, which is just two stops on the DART, (Dublin Area Rapid Transit), and to Howth Castle as well. We had nice dinners at the Eagle House Pub just down the road, and enjoyed walking all over Sandycove and Dun Loaghaire. We took an open top, double decker bus tour of dublin, and visited St. Patricks Cathedral and Christ Church, as well as a few souvenier shops there in Dublin. The location of the Windsor lodge is the best. We walked down to the sea shore and picked shamrocks from the grass, for good luck. It was a wonderful Daddy - Daughter outing, with much thanks going to Mrs. Mary and the Windsor Lodge. This is not the Hilton, so if you expect the Hilton, go to the Hilton, but if you want to stay in an authentic Irish home, with a wonderful Irish family, this is the place. I hope to return next year.

“nice experience”

My daughter and I spent 4 nights in the Windsor Lodge and it was a delight. Mary was very friendly and helpful and made us the most wonderful breakfast! I absolutely had to buy a few packets of that wonderful bacon she cooked for us ;) the location is great, with the direct link to the airport via Patton Flyer and the DART almost at your doorstep. The connection to the O2 is great as well: DART to Connolly and then the tram to the O2-entrance. We spent a day discovering the surrounding area and discovered some nice restaurants (Mary will advise you very well where to go).

“Great Location, minor disappointments”

My husband and I traveled with another couple to Ireland. We stayed 2 nights at Windsor Lodge when we first arrived on June 25th. The location is awesome. You take the Patton Flyer bus directly from the airport (8 Euro per person) and it drops you off a block away from the B&B. The DART station is at the top of the block and you can get a round trip ticket into Dublin for ~ 4.50 Euro. Dun Laoghaire is a cool little town in itself located on the ocean with plenty of restaurants and lots to offer.

I would consider my group to be very low maintenance, so this B&B worked perfectly for us. We pretty much used it as a place to crash, which I think most people would do. However, if you're looking for something a little more upscale and inviting to spend some quality time, I would suggest looking elsewhere.

Mary, the owner, was extremely kind but not particularly warm. I think it's because she just had so much to do that she didn't have time to chat. She always seemed rushed, even in the manner she spoke. She was perfectly pleasant, just didn't give you the warm fuzzies. She was setting up for breakfast at 10:30 each night, clanging around on the floor beneath us.

We were given the back room in the B&B, which I think was probably one of the smallest. Our friends had a larger room with a double and twin bed and were perfectly comfortable. Our room was just big enough for the double bed it had in it (which was a very comfortable bed), and the bathroom was tiny. My husband is 6'4", and he had a really hard time with the size of the shower. Literally, he could barely lift his arms up without hitting his elbows on the sides. Not the end of the world, but certainly not the ideal situation. We never ran out of hot water though, which was a plus! The towels were extremely rough. Again, we didn't care that much but it was noteworthy.

Overall, our stay was fine. If you're looking for a simple place to stay in a great location just outside of Dublin, this B&B would work for you.

“Nice clean, bright and close to the DART into Dublin”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 July 2009

This B&B was a great place to start our trip to Ireland. It was easy to get to with public transportation and just a skip up the road from the Dublin Bay waterfront. Breakfast was plentiful, and the beds in our very clean room were the best of our stay -- very comfortable!
