“Professional photographs were nothing like the real thing!”

Im an easy going traveller, who is interested in head down, in a clean safe room and thats about as much as I ask. I can deal with not great furniture, shared bathrooms etc - with warning. But not when Im expecting more as from the photographs and description.

We booked online and were happy with our cheap deal, as the photos on the booking site misled us. Our room had a bed which wasnt quite a double, but we were being sold it as a double, we got on with it. Same with the shower inside the bedroom, the sharing toilets, the unclean walls and floor, the hanging wires you notice as you are coming back down the stairs, the disinterested staff. The best bit was the breakfast, and even that was tinned hotdog sausages! (At least there was plenty).

This is acceptable - if youre happy to accept a cheap bed and in full knowledge of all of the above, If not, dont bother booking. Its walking distance from Dublin centre and I imagine this is how it still keeps ticking over, and someone will buy a room and be kidded by those photos!

Room Tip: dont book here!

“Avoid like the plague!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

On first arrival the place looks like your typical B&B, that is until you get to your room. The room (112) was very small, the bed was so rickety that rolling over in the night was only carried out if you were feeling brave, the one upright of the bed was so loose there was a 1/2" gap between it and the frame. Only 1 pillow each meant rolling up a blanket as a pillow just to get a reasonable nights sleep. Traffic noise was horrendous. the (broken) windows were so draughty that it made the door of the room rattle all night, the only way to solve this was propping a chair against the door. The bathroom was tiny, the shower didn't drain properly so staying in it for too long meant risking flooding the bathroom. No tea and coffee facilities in the room. The smell that greeted us every morning in the corridor (I assume from the toilet on the 1st floor) was disgusting.

The "Full Irish Breakfast" that was offered was far from it, In fact a small child would still have been hungry after eating it. Kitchen staff were rude and disinterested. A sponful of beans, two tiny sausages and a tiny rasher of bacon isn't even an english breakfast, let alone an Irish one!

The only positive things I can say is that the gentleman that checked us out was very helpful, let us leave our bags and directed us to the correct bus to the airport. This "B&B" is close to the centre of the city, but so are many other B&B's and hotels....pick one of those before choosing this one!

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms at the front of the hotel

“Pay online if you want a decent price!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 November 2011 via mobile

The walls are dirty, the carpet is stained, no light in shower, noise through thin windows off a busy street, small breakfast selection, hot stuffy rooms at night with no temp control, small double bed, smoke smell in hall. Just wished we had done room check and price check before we stayed really. Most of the staff are nice though.

“basic, but ok for what you get”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2011

overall we had a really nice stay , was very welcomed when arrived , this is only a bed and breakfast not a hotel , you only get what you pay for, the only complaint i have is that the guest house states that you get n irish breakfast , but was so disappointed to get an english breakfast , an irish one has white pudding which i was so looking forward to having as i live in england , look forward to returning to ireland very soon , kelly ,

Room Tip: this is only really good for single and couples looking for a few days stay

“Absolutely disgusting! Smelled of smoke. Slept on my towel.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2011

This is a poor example of a B&B. It's more like a dilapidated backpackers. Just because you provide a bed and serve breakfast doesn't mean you can call yourself a B&B. As a well travelled 35 year old woman travelling alone, i felt unsafe and dirty. I was told it was a double with ensuite but it is a pokey little room up 2 flights of small winding stairs. Only after asking if the man at the door could help me up the 2 flights of stairs did he come to my aid. It is dirty and smells of smoke. The carpet was damp and there were stains on the ceiling. It's ensuite consists of a basin in a manky water-logged cabinet and a shower which at first glance seem ok... until you try to use it and discover it only runs at full when it is on cold - try and add the hot and you get a thin piddle of a stream of water- hardly enough to run your toothbrush under. when I complained about the smell and the shower I was told by the older man that he didnt understand how it worked and there was no further offer to remedy the situation. There was no toilet in my room and therefore not suitable for females. Why bother with a shower in the room and not a toilet..the toilet was 2 levels down. This place made me feel like I was in a red light district. I slept on my towel as i could trust the sheets were clean and sprayed perfume on a scarf and slept with it over my face. I couldn't have a shower so I slept just a few hours and left extra early for the airport just to be rid of the place and it's stench. The write up on Avondale says it is newly refurbished... Please see my photos taken on 23.9.11 before you decide to book here... I stupidly ignored the bad comments thinking thinking it was just a few disgruntled people. Trust me...book elsewhere!
