“Average is accurate.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

The hotel is situated in a decent and central area. It was clean, but some things about it were not quite right. The mattress on the bed should have been retired, as my husband and I were both forced to the middle of it. Sections of the mattress frame had been crushed where people were most likely to sit. The bathroom was of a good size and the shower had good pressure, but the shower head needed to be replaced. It had some green and orange on it at and some of the holes on it were blocked. The furniture looked new, but cheap and honestly, if the hotel was cheaper and only rated 2 stars, I might be able to be more generous in my evaluation. We did not eat there and the only nice thing that I can say is that at least the towels were of a good size.

Room Tip: Do not choose a basic room.

“Generally good, but parking fee an issue”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012
1
person found this review helpful

In general our experience here was positive but just with one issue - parking.
The hotel states a 24-hour rate of 10Euro in the adjacent multi-story car park which
is run by a separate company (ParkRite, I believe). On checking out the reception desk staff
validated our parking ticket and advised us to go to the parking information office at
the exit barrier to pay the special rate, rather than going to a payment machine. The problem
was that the information office was closed and on pressing the intercom we were
told by ParkRite staff to go back and find a payment machine. It's a one-way system
so this requires a 15-20 minute walk back and then you are charged the full fee by the
machine. The morning we were there (a Saturday about 12 noon) there were many people wandering around trying to sort out this mess. Meanwhile the hotel staff seemed to feel
that it was the responsibility of the parking company. It's clear that the hotel needs to
review their contract with ParkRite so as to ensure that customers are not inconvenienced
in this manner.

Apart from this issue our stay was satisfactory. The hotel is modern and clean, although
badly in need of fresh painting (I saw that some areas are being repainted so hopefully this
will be done all over, including the bedrooms).

Staff were generally very friendly.

The food store/deli next door is very good, excellent coffee etc.

Location is good, but visitors should note that the area isn't safe to walk in at night so
be prepared to get taxis back to hotel if you are heading out.

Dear Ballinora4,

Thank you for your review on tripadvisor.

I was very upset and concerned that you had such a negative experience in the car park following your stay with us.

Unfortunately the car park is a 3rd party car park and is not owned or operated by the hotel. They do offer a discount of €10 for 24 hours for guests of the Maldron Hotel Smithfield once the ticket has been validated by the hotel reception. Although the car park office does have limited opening hours at the weekends the office should indeed be manned during the day on Sunday.
I can assure you that all negative reviews that are received are taken extremely seriously with extensive retraining being carried out with hotel and car park staff to ensure that any errors or negative experiences are rectified immediately to ensure that there is no reoccurrence.
As can be seen from the below all reviews are responded to, and all feedback and comments are appreciated and taken on board in order for us to improve the level of service offered.

Thank you once again for your review and I do hope to welcome you back to the Maldron Hotel Smithfield in the future.

“Very Conveniet”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

Stay here for a weeked recetly and was very impressed. Lovely clean hotel very covenient to a load of attreactions, i.e. Jameson Distillery, Guiness brewery, Dart transport system which gives you access to all of the City at a cheap and convenient way. We got a double room for €29.50 with our own balcony and a view of Smithfield Square. There was a horse fair there on there Sunday morning and that was well worth a view.

Room Tip: Any room to the front with a balacony.

“Great prize”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

Was fortunate enough to win a facebook competition for a two night stay for two people with breakfast and one evening meal in a suite on the top floor, the prize also included a great tour of the nearby Jameson Distillery. The room was very spacious with a balcony overlooking Smithfield square. All the staff were friendly and welcoming. Food in the restaurant was very nice with great service. Good breakfast, unlike a previous reviewer really liked the sausages. The hotel is convenient to the Luas trams, like any capital city, some parts of the local area can be a bit rough so wouldn't recommend wandering too far off the beaten path, keep an eye out for women in pyjamas! A walk into town takes 10 to 15 minutes. The Jameson distillery is just across the square. The oldest pub in Dublin the Brazen Head is 5 minutes walk away. Enjoyed being a tourist in our own city.

Dear Loelk,

Thank you so much for taking the time to post such a wonderful and positive review on tripadvisor.

I am delighted you enjoyed your time with us and found the standard of the hotel to be so high.

The two areas we prioritise here at the Maldron Hotel Smithfield are cleanliness and customer service and the team and I are delighted you found the staff to be do welcoming. We aim to ensure that the highest standards are always kept.
Service is vitally important to us, and we try to ensure that the highest level of service is delivered to all guests. Your comments are very much appreciated and it gives the team a great boost to read how appreciated their efforts are.

I agree our proximity to the Luas is a great advantage to us. Although a city centre property we are very lucky to be located in such a peaceful area. Being a city centre property with the Luas on our doorstep it allows for easy access to local attractions, shopping areas, Court Services as well as Temple Bar, as well as to Heuston and Connolly Train Stations, the O2, CCD as well as many other attractions.

We look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel in the future and thank you once again for taking the time to post your wonderful review on our hotel.

Regards

Ann Marie Traynor

“Perfect for an inexpensive stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

This was our second time staying in the Maldron, Smithfield. Once again it was very reasonable and we enjoyed our stay. It is comfortable with good service and a very good price. Perfect if you are on a budget. Also quite close to the centre of the city, especially with the Luas.

Dear MayoEttie,

Thank you so much for posting such a wonderful and positive review on tripadvisor.

Service is vitally important to us here at the Maldron Hotel Smithfield, and the whole team was delighted that you found the staff to be so friendly, personable and noticed our efforts made to make you and all our guests stay a special one whether for work or leisure purpose.

I agree that our location is a special key factor and having the Luas on our doorstep is a great advantage to us. Although we are a city centre the area is very peaceful, while still being walking distance to many local attractions such as Jameson Distillery, Guinness Storehouse, Dublin zoo, shopping areas and Temple Bar. Also with the Luas on our doorstep it is extremely convenient for CCD, the O2 and Heuston station.

The entire team look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel in the near future and we thank you once again for taking the time to write such positive feedback on your stay.
