“Functional and clean”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

Location is convenient to office that I was visiting and relatively so to the likes of Temple Bar etc - a 15min walk. Rooms are clean, functional and relatively large if not a little spartan and dated.

General area is quiet with some bars and restaurants but not many, though a larger choice is available within a 20min walk. In general the hotel is okay if a little overpriced for what you are getting. Like every other hotel it suffers from inconsiderate guests who think it is okay to have a full blown conversation in the corridor at 2 AM on a Tuesday and Wednesday morning and ruined an otherwise pleasant stay.

“Grand Canal Hotel is grand - but beware location details!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

This hotel is quite nice in many ways, e.g. great breakfast selection (though no FRESH fruit), really comfy bed, fantastic power in shower, convenient car parking, free wi-fi (but slow) & entertainment selection in rooms. Staff very helpful & professional. Service staff in particular were most pleasant.
However, just a couple of items to be aware of. Firstly, there was no bath in my room which did not bother me (the shower was great) but if you particularly want one, it would be best to make a specific request.
Secondly, there is no way anyone (with the possible exception of Usain Bolt!!) would get to Grand Canal Theatre on foot in just 5 mins. Fairly stepping it out would take between 15-20 mins. There is a shuttle bus available from the hotel @ 4 euro pp each way so a taxi would be cheaper if there are 2 or more together. (If you are travelling farther afield, the Luas stop is literally 2-3 mins walk away.)
Thirdly, though it is unlikely any fault of the hotel, the Google Maps directions sent me to Sir John Rogersons Quay in error!! I spoke with another hotel resident and she had the same experience, so it was not just me!!

Hello
Thank you for taking the time to post your comments. Feedback is always useful to hear but I would like to respond to a couple of the points raised.
The shuttle bus to the theatre is €4 per person return trip or €2 per person each way. There is fresh fruit salad & whole fruit available for breakfast, if it was not there when you approached the buffet I do apologise.
I agree to make it to the theatre in 5 minutes would require above average athletic ability, but generally it takes our guests about 10 minutes to walk.
We are working with Google to ensure our location on their map is correct but are putting a fixed option on our own website, which we hope will be more useful.
We have a number of rooms with bathrooms, specially adapted for wheelchair users and this was the room you were allocated without a bath.
Thank you again for the comments and I hope you will have the opportunity to stay with us again soon.
Kind regards
Sheila Baird

“Good value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

Hotel great location for attending events in the Aviva stadium or grand canal theatre. I am not a walker but it was only a ten minute walk to the theatre and pretty straight forward. Good selection of restaurants around the theatre area. Hotel basic but clean and comfortable. Very good standard of breakfast in the morning. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Free parking available at the hotel which is a plus for city hotels. For example the five star westbury charges a fee for parking !!!!

“Location???”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

Stayed here in January to go see Sister Act. Took us ages to actually find the hotel after getting off the Lucas stop. Its not walking distance to the Theatre in my opinion hence why theres a shuttle bus service! 20-25mins walk to Lucas stop, 10 mins to Dart & 20mins at least to Stephens Green- these times were given to us by reception staff. We ended up getting taxis for the sake of walking 10mins to get to the Dart we'd have being in town or almost by taxi- taxi approx €8 each way! Apart from location hotel was nice. Rooms nice & comfy, tea/coffee making facilities, good size bathrooms, good shower pressure etc. Food in hotel was lovely- we had lunch in the bar, there was a party taking place when we arrived back from the show so bar was jammed & we actually had to share a table with strangers (we didnt mind this just hope they didnt either!), alot of noise on our floor & the rooms beside us in particular, at 4am I finally caved in & rang reception thankfully the noise stopped shortly after that however some guy on a mobile phone outside kept me awake for a further 30-40mins (room got a little to warm so I opened the window slightly). Breakfast next morning was very good but it was busy we went down around 10am & there was a bit of a que about 30mins later the place was jammed & the que for the buffet/hot food was nearly back out the restaurant door.
Over all I dont think I'd stay here again as I didnt think the location was great only for the shuttle bus to the Theatre I would have being well pee'ed off with it altogether! The hotel was very busy all weekend which just goes to show its very popular I'm just sharing my experience!

Hello
Thank you fro your comments. It is always good to get feedback and we will certainly be taking yours on board and are in the process of updating the map on our website to give guidelines of distances more clearly.
We are located 2 minutes from the Grand Canal Dock Dart station and 10 minutes walk to the Grand Canal Theatre. We understand on a January night this can feel a little more! Our guests do find the shuttle an advantage in this regard.
The Gasworks Bar is busy on the weekends and has a good fun atmosphere. I am sorry that you were disturbed by other guests during the evening. We do try and minimise this and react quickly to such situations.
I do hope you might consider us again and thank you again for the posting.
Kind regards
Sheila Baird
