“Shame, standards dropping”

You might see I gave this hotel a glowing review previously, but things have changed a bit since my last visit.

Positives: I love the bar, really nice relaxing spot to have a drink in. The rooms are generally very nice, but some wear and tear now showing.

Negatives: This place is understaffed. They just seem to be run ragged, no time for a smile or any courtesy. Funny thing is that when they mess up your order because they don't listen, they are happy to exchange looks of disgust or dismay. Get it right first time.

The staff are not as good. Fot this management must take a look at themselves. Has management changed recently? Staff were all new to me and seem to hate their jobs, probably because there is not enough of them.

I had breakfast lunch and dinner here recently. Breakfast was simply a scrum, staff could care less. Lunch was less of a scrum, but god it was the least personal experience in restaurant ever, like a poorly run factory.

The water...so they're cutting corners with the boiler. Two days, no hot water either day. Second day phoned reception, within 5 mins standing cold in a towel water came warm, I think someone put money in the meter. This is unforgiveable. A one star hotel knows that it all starts with electric and plumbing.

I left with the distinct impression that they're trying to save money. But it seems to me that if you cut the basics of warm water and even decent service that you may as well close the place.

It still looks attractive, so focus on the service and you might be back to the 5 star rating I gave when you seemed to care.

Room Tip: Check the water temp before you get in the shower, mine was lukewarm all the time. But they can heat...

“beautiful rooms”

The rooms in this hotel are beautiful. My partner and I stayed in a suite and were blown away with how nice it was. we stayed on a staurday night so it was very busy down stairs. We had dinner in the resturant which was just ok if im honest! we wanted to get a drink at the bar however there were no seats so we decided to get room service upstairs... The bar however would not answer the phone and the reception could not help... this was fustrating as it should not have being advertised. I would stay again but not on a fri/sat night. The hotel seems to be opening its bar to the public and i feel guests should be priority.

Room Tip: Stay in a suite

4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

We stayed on a dinner and dine basis. Food was lovely and the rooms are great- very funky and modern! Really was someting different and a very enjoyable experience! Only fault we would have was the terrible music!

Overall lovely stay, very clean and stylish hotel and great value!

“Super Hotel, excellent helpful staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

I had to stay at the Beacon unexpectedly when my wife was admitted to the Hospital which is on the same campus. I had no luggage or basic toiletries with me, the young lady on reception was incredibly kind and ran around trying to find me all the essential items I needed to make the night comfortable. The room was very modern and well equipped with a fantastic bathroom. I will certainly stay again with my wife when we can better enjoy the facilities, including the cocktail bar and restaurant. A superb nights stay especially under the circumstances.....
