“PLEASE DO NOT STAY HERE.. especially if you are female and travelling alone...”

Unless this hotel has improved its shoddy room doors, which you cannot secure lock from the inside, I would sincerely urge female solo travellers to NOT STAY in My Place Dublin, formerly Browns Hotel. My WORST hotel experience ever

Room Tip: Do not stay here....

“Never again”

This hotel was old, the bathroom was mouldy and small. The hot water barely worked. The cleaner literally threw a towel at you in the morning and that's what they called "cleaning". My friend stayed in the "luxury Room" and was bitten by fleas. It's located near the city centre but on a dodgy street. The staff were clueless and disinterested. The pizza place downstairs was good though.

“Basic accomodation, you get what you pay for”

Stayed at Brown's Hotel as part of a short break with my Fiance. After reading the reviews I was not expecting too much from the hotel. We arrived slightly early to check in however the room was ready and we were given the keys. At first it seemed as though the door did not have a lock, and after asking at reception we were told that they are self locking doors. To ensure we did not have any valuables stolen we ensured that we took all things important with us at all times. The room was located on the first floor directly accross from the reception desk. This room looked out over Gardiner Street and also had one wall which formed the side of the entrance corridor. Because of this it was very noisy at almost all times of the day, added to this was a entrance buzzer that sounded everytime the main door into the building was opened. This was continually going off all night and we felt it was louder than necessary.
The location of the hotel was ideal, being about 5 minute walk to get to the tourist hop on hop off bus. Even the walk to temple bar was shorted than anticipated taking approxamitely 15 minutes. Overall Dublin was a fantastic city and we would very much like to stay again however would not be staying in Browns hotel.

“got what we paid for!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 June 2010

We booked this hotel as we were going to Croke park , to see Westlife, and its only a 10 minute walk to it. On reading the reviews we were very apprehensive i must say!! As we were only staying one night we only brought minimal belongings.. We arrived an hour early to check in, but staff were only too pleased to allow us to stay in the seating area.. then gave us key to our room shortly after.. The room was on the very top floor..62 steps..It was an attic room, very damp smell and visible damp spores on the wall near the window, the bathroom was as clean as was able..shower was very good!!There were 2 towels and a bath mat. The beds very comfortable and clean..we were at the back of the building so very little noise..All the staff very helpful and friendly..

“If you just want to be in dublin, it works for the money.”

The room was small, and the bathroom was even smaller. No more than 1 person at a time could be in it at a time, so it was difficult to get ready. The shower was moldy and the whole room and bathroom were just generally unclean and unkempt. It's an older building that has obviously not been updated as well as it could have been. Yes it's cheap, but it's the sort of place where you worry about bugs getting you while you sleep :(. It was also VERY hot...we were on the third floor, and there wasn't any air conditioning or even a fan in the room. May isn't normally too hot thankfully, but I imagine it would be worse later in the summer. The staff were neither helpful nor unhelpful; they were just kind of there. We asked one desk person for help getting a bus one day and he said he didn't know how to help us, but the next day the desk person was extremely helpful and told us exactly where we needed to go. It IS in a great location, which makes it worthwhile to some I suppose. If all you plan to do is sleep and get ready there, I suppose it's not a bad deal, but it's the sort of place that you don't want to spend a second more in than you have to.
