“Very nice old-style hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2011

Merrion hotel is a nice older european-Style Hotel. The rooms were clean and quaint and we had plenty of room. It was a bit uncomfortable to make the walk through the tea room ( sometimes quite crowded) and outside through a cold walkway to our room in the other building. It is a very quiet place. overall it was a good experience but we might trysomething a bit more modern next trip.

“Very nice hotel in nice area”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2011

The Merrion Hall hotel is a very nice hotel situated in Ballsbridge. Its very quiet with a very distinctive character. The drawing rooms in particular are very charming and its is a very pleasant surprise to be served tea/coffee and biscuits on arrival in these pleasant surroundings (even more so in Winter, when there are open fires).

“Not as expected - avoid!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 August 2011

When i booked the Merrion Hall i was led to believe we would get drinks on arrival and a modern room. When we arrived there was building work outside, no drinks on arrival and we were put into a tiny room with 2 single beds squeezed in. There was no bedside table or light and no space for getting in and out of the other single bed (you had to climb over one bed to get to the other). There were bars on the windows and a noise from the air conditioning. This is not a hotel i would be happy staying in again. I have given it 2 stars because the rooms were clean and the breakfast quite nice, if a little small. Spend your euros somewhere else!

“I'd Have Give no Stars but I have to pick 1”

Awful shocking "stay" well i say stay but we left before it could be classed as that. Arrived on a Friday afternoon in the pouring of rain to be greeted by a building site! Had to ring the bell to get in, not let in by a memeber of staff but by a builder on his way home from working that day, Hotel was freezing on entering especially since coming in from the pouring rain! We checked in and we're told our stay was Room only although I had booked B&B and I showed the receptionist this proof, this wasn't good enough for her she said "Oh i'll have to check" I thought a print our confirming it would be proof enough!

On to the room which had a beautiful view of rubble and wooden boards. The room was freezing. Fair enough it was June and they may think it was goign to be warm but this is Ireland and it was a miserable day! The aircon did not work as I tried to crank up the heating. The room was small in size with a so called four poster bed, any movement on this bed was followed by load and annoying creaking and cracking.

While getting ready to go out and get out of this place my partner was getting dressed and someone just walked straight into the room, they never knocked, said sorry etc and we still don't know if it was staff or not. Wouldn't leave you feeling great about leaving items in the room.

We carried on getting ready. My partenr went to dry her hair with the hotel supplied hair dryer. The dryer kept stopping and starting then all of a sudden it burst into flames in my partners hands. The flames came from the socket which would maybe indicate wiring problems not just dryer problems. Thank god the air con hadn't worked earlier or I hadn't gone to bed charging my phone!

This was the final straw, we spent the next half hour ringing round hotels to get another booking and wasting what we hoped would be a nice relaxing evening. We went to reception ordered a taxi and informed them we would not be staying or paying. I have emailed the hotels chain looking for answers to all this and explanations and to date still no reply

“The best hotel in Dublin”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2011

The hotel was lovely and clean with maid service everyday. The night time service was also good.
The food was brilliant, and we would strongly recommend this hotel to anyone thinking of staying in Dublin
