“A fine place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2011

We selected this hotel because it appeared to be a good value. We were very pleasantly surprised. We liked the atmosphere( a former home that has been in the family for generations, I believe). Our room was bright and very nicely decorated. The staff was very friendly and very helpful. Also, the hotel is around 5 minutes or so from the center of town.

I was looking for somewhere cheap as it was the bank holiday weekend and said wed chance this place as i knew where it was.It was easy to find about 5 mins walking from o connell street.nice welcome from the owner.showed is the bar and the breakfast room.olf fashioned decor but was nice. Our room was on the second floor and had ensuite.theres no lift but its ok though.the ensuite was tiny but had everything in it.Nice bed had a great sleep both nights.pity theres no tea and coffee in the room but if you ring reception you can go downstairs to have it.theres a breakfast menu which is good.nice breakfast.quiet place at nightime.I would stay here again good value for money.

Room Tip: ask for room with ensuite otherwise you get a room with no ensutie and you have to go to another flo...

“Budget, but much better than the one across the road! (Lyndon B & B)”

I was originally meant to be staying at the Lyndon Guest House accross the road, and they weren't there to let me in at the time they told me to be there, so had to find something in an emergency. I came over the road and asked the last at reception if they had any rooms, she luckily had one standard (shared bathroom) one left.

It was a long skinny room and the bathroom was 2 flights of stairs down. The room was clean and the single bed was very comfortable.

The lady at reception was lovely and very helpful.

The shower in the bathroom wasn't very warm and took over 10 minutes for any warm water to come through and the water pressure was low but it was clean, and a good supply of clean towels in there.

The bedroom had a sink and a small TV (which i couldn't get any signal on) and a wardobe.

The sheets were crispy clean.

The breakfast was basic (sausages eggs and bacon) but there was enopugh of it and was tasty.

I would stay here again, but next time i'd try and get something a bit closer to all the sights, it was a good 15 minute walk to the areas of interest. (Although it is very close to Croke park for people wanting to see sporting events).

“Excellent value and we'll come back”

My son and I visited Ireland in July and we started and finished our trip in Dublin. We arrived early in the morning and the staff went out of their way to get a room ready for us. The staff is very friendly, the hotel clean and we walked every night to the Temple Bar area with no problem.

When we came back 6 days later, we felt like family and were greeted warmly.

It is an excellent value.

“Dont stay here!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 August 2011

Me and my wife stayed here for 7 nights late July 2011.

To start out with the negative:
First of all this place is extremly noisy and you should not expect to get any sleep. The walls are so thin that you can here everything said in the next room and you will for sure be woken up by guests returning home late in the evening.
Second. The keys to the rooms are attached to a big wooden sign that bangs into the door as people comes and go..
Another thing is that the hotel maindoor is locked at all times, so you have to ring the doorbell to enter. In the nighttime this was terrible since it woke us up so many times every night.
The staff use the nighttime to wacumclean the common areas and again,.. the noise from a vacumcleaner at 2 a clock at night outside your thin door was so anoying.

When we got down to the breakfast the first morning we noticed that water was dripping from the ceiling in the restaurant. (quite alot actualy) When we told the old lady who runs the restaurant she just said: Thats when people are showering upstairs, and then she left again. She did not bring a bucket to place uner, nor did she wipe up the water. How delicious that shower water runs down through the ceiling and drips on the tables. I just imagine someone peeing in the shower..wonder where that ends up?!

The morning we checked out the old lady in the restaurant asked us if we were leaving, we said yes, then she took our orders and just ignored us for 30 min. She didnt bring our breakfast or coffee.. but the 3 families who came after us into the restaurant got served and ate and left.. and we were still waiting. She just ignored Us becuase we wouldnt stay there for the night. So we had to complain and finaly she brought us some food..not what we had ordered but just something. We were now in such a hurry to get to the airport that we didnt relly care anymore.

So all in all.. a noisy place where you will get no sleep unless your dead drunk.
The hygiene is questionable in the restaurant with the shower water that drips from the ceiling. And the lady who works in the restaurant is so rude to ignore the order from people who are checking out.

How ever when all this is said.
The rest of the staff was so friendly and helpful and very polite and profesional.

So if you dont mind not sleeping, dont mind that you wont have any privacy in the rooms due to the very very thin walls, and if you dont mind the bad service and dripping water in the restaurant. Then you could choose this place. But you will for sure find better places for less money in Dublin.
