“Handy location and friendly staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

I recently stayed here with friends as part of theatre package to see 'Dirty Dancing' in the Grand Canal Theatre.

The package was great value as it included one night's B&B accommodation, evening meal and transport to and from the theatre by bus.

The hotel is large, clean, easy to locate and has a good size pay-to-park carpark for guests.

Staff were very friendly and helpful; the menu is varied and staff are very knowledgable. They even had gluten-free bread - which is unusual - and one male chef had really good awareness of cross-contaminiation between g/f and gluten-containing foods.

The service during the evening meal was very prompt and the food delicious - although I would have liked more than one slice of roast beef. The salmon looked plentiful and delicious.

We shared a triple room (three single beds) which was very clean but a little dark due to the lighting. The bathroom was spotless but the shower wasn't particularly good. Unfortunately, there weren't any showercaps in the rooms. Towels (a hand towel and bath towel each per guest) were provided. As was a good hairdryer and hospitality tray.

Breakfast was chaotic to say the least - probably because they appeared to be short-staffed. There were no glasses or pure orange. Toast was chaotic and staff were really being hassled. Unfortunately, the foreign national cooking the eggs used a sea of oil in which to fry them and her grasp of English was insufficient to be reliable. The hot breakfast was lukewarm. The fruit, cereals and joghurts were fine.

Overall, I'd stay here again and I think it would be a good base for a break in Dublin

Room Tip: Ask to be located in the newer section.

“Great theatre package deal”

My 2 sisters and I are just back having spent Monday night here on one of their great theatre break deals (Dirty Dancing - Grand Canal Theatre) €99 gets you dinner, B&B, theatre ticket and transport to and from the show. Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, we had a large comfy and very clean room with 3 single beds which was great, bedroom and bathroom seemed to be recently renovated. Along with the usual large mirror in the bathroom there was a two sided moveable shaving mirror which was great for putting the make-up on, there were at least 3 more mirrors in the bedroom which is great when there's a crowd of ladies. Plenty of closet and drawer space. The pre show dinner was very tasty, choice of 2 starters, 3 mains and 3 desserts. Good selection for breakfast also we really enjoyed the scrambled egg. We would stay here again, as for Dirty Dancing - AMAZING!

Room Tip: Get one of the newer rooms as not all have been renovated yet.

“Will be back again”

Stayed for 2 nights attending Dirty Dancing show in Dublin. Hotel staff on reception were excellent and very friendly throughout our time there. All staff seemed very happy in their work which is a good sign. Rooms were very large ,comfortable and clean and were of a very good standard. We were on a package which included dinner which had a fairly good menu.
Would rather have had a table to ourselves rather than put at a table with 8 other people who we had just met. It's a bit awkward when you don't know anyone. Other than that the service was very good and really lovely meal.
Entertainment in the bar on both nights which was excellent after a hard day shopping.
My husband has difficulty walking and we were alocated a room on the 4th floor but i requested a room on a lower floor and a very nice receptionist obliged immediately moving us to the ground floor. Excellent service. Will hopefully return soon to this hotel.

“Not worth the price”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

I've stayed here twice now for work and I will be staying elsewhere next time.

The staff are generally very friendly and helpful and the reception area is nice. The rooms however are basic. I had to do my ironing in a gross little room more suited to a youth hostel than a good hotel. I had a great view but the window was single glazed and let out all of the tepid heat coming off the radiator.

Worst of all was the poor selection of food in the bar. Both visits now the restaurant has been closed so unless you can make it to the coffee shop along the road before 7pm the bar menu is your only option. The food was ok but way overproced for what you get. At least this time I got friendly service. Last trip in December the two female waitresses were hopelessly disorganised and incredibly rude.

Room Tip: Ask for the rooms on the fifth floor overlooking the car park. It's really noisy at the front a...

“Pleasantly surprised”

Booked a one night stay here on a third party discount website. Judging by some reviews on here, I wasn't expecting much, having paid very little.

Got allocated a great room with view of Dublin city. Bed was very comfortable and bathroom was clean. Requested two wine glasses from reception, these arrived at our door inside five minutes. Breakfast the next morning was delicious. Hotel itself is located around 3 miles from city centre (there is a bus stop right outside which stops at O'Connell Street). Staff throughout our stay were very helpful and courteous. Would stay here again.
