“mixed review”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

We were 2 couples who stayed at The Ashling Hotel in Dublin for 4 nights. The rooms are excellent, spacious and clean. There is no problem there. The location is a bit out of the center. You can take the tram, for 1.90 Euros per person to the center of town. Since we were 4 people, we paid the 10-11 Euros and took taxis. Our problem with the hotel centers around the staff at the front desk. Since there is no concierge, you need to rely on the front desk staff. Our first encounter with them, was questioning whether or not the restaurant we wanted to reserve was open on Sunday nights. Without hesitation she said, yes they are open, without calling. We were supposed to meet a large group there for dinner. At the last second, on our own, we found out that they were closed. The next issue, was our next night dinner. We had the name of the restaurant, but needed the address to give to the taxi driver. They told us, no need for the address, the driver will know. Of course, the driver had no idea, and had to pull over and go into a pub and ask where the restaurant was. The third night, we asked them to make a reservation for us at The Pig's Ear for dinner. Again, we were told, not necessary, just go. When we got there, they said you must have reservations. As you can see, the front desk will not pick up a telephone to find out anything for you. If they would have made one phone call for us each night, our dinner plans would have gone smoothly. As for the restaurant in the hotel, the food is vile. Do not eat there under any circumstances. The bar is quite pleasant for drinks and snacks. And one more thing: we checked out the night before we left, since we were leaving at 6:00 a.m. But, after we settled the bill, we decided to have some drinks in the bar. In the morning, we went to settle that last bill. They had no record that we paid for our bill the night before and tried to charge us again for all of our charges for the 4 days. Overall, nice rooms, but incompetent and terrible food.

“Excellent Hotel Excellent Location”

My wife and I and two friends stayed at the Ashling Hotel Dublin over the weekend of the Ireland v Wales Rugby International Match. We had booked on standard room only basis. On arrival, for a small sum, we were upgraded to superior rooms which included breakfast. The rooms were spacious with 6 feet wide beds. The en suite was nearly as big as the room and had bath, shower and two sinks! The hotel staff were most helpful in every way. I give a special thanks to the restaurant manager, a Scot named Bryan. Wholly professional and would not been out of place in the very best hotels anywhere in the world. Transport to and from the hotel and Dublin Airport was outstanding. The 747 bus takes you to Heuston Train Station which is about 100 yards from the hotel. Likewise the transport to and from Dublin Centre is a tram stop about 100 yards from the hotel. The only minor gripe was the traffic noise in the magnificent room at the front of the hotel. However, as we live in country, the sound was probably more noticeable in comparison with our normal silence. Well done Ashling, we will be staying again soon!!!

Room Tip: Superior rooms away from the front of the hotel

“Best find of our trip”

The location of the Ashling may seem distant from a lot of Dublin's attractions, but its proximity to public transportation makes its location excellent. Heuston Station is just across the bridge, Dublin Bus is just steps from the front door, 2 LUAS stops are within a couple of blocks. It's also an easy walk to the National Museum, Ryan's and Nancy Hands pubs, restaurants and a C-Store. The hotel itself has an excellent restaurant and an upscale pub.
Our room was large and well appointed; staff was knowledgeable and helpful. My wife has some mobility problems, but everything was convenient for her--we had a handicap equipped room that met our needs.

“Thanks for a great short trip to Dublin.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

This hotel is perfectly located near to Heuston rail for arrivals on the transfer bus from the airport and is right on the Luas tram line for trips into the city as well as being close to the Gaol, but without the noise of being a city hotel. The bed was so comfortable and everything was clean & comfortable with staff pulling out the stops when told it was for a birthday break to the city. A great Irish breakfast really does set you up for the day and the bar is very relaxing after a days tramping round the sights. My only negative was the price of the drinks in the bar really ! Staff were brilliant and if we were to return to Dublin, we would stay here again.

“Good city centre hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

Great spot for a break in the city. 5 min walk from the train station and bang on the Luas line too.

Really nice rooms too. Breakfast is a buffet but a a really good one.

Food seems a dear though. The bar was a nice place to chill too.
