“Economical for family. Clean. Safe.”

We found Shaw Court Apartments a perfect place to stay for a few nights with our family +1 (total 6). We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment. All was clean and it was nice to have a livingroom and kitchen to mill about instead of just a "hotel" room to sit in while we got used to the time change (5 hours from US).

It was walking distance to Grafton Street/Trinity College, etc. We ate at the Bleeding Horse which had fine food and was on the way to town. Bewley's Cafe on Grafton had the best Full Irish Breakfast and the PorterHouse - found down a side street off Grafton in a "dark alley" served excellent food and beer for dinner. We got the Beer Sampler for 3 different types and enjoyed them all.

A quick trip to Spar's (convenient store) stocked us up on a few food items we wanted to keep in the apartment. Shaw Court provides tea and instant coffee (which wasn't terrible), sugars and creamer.

My only complaint was the water heater. It was very loud and even though 2 doors separated me from it - I could hear it all night.

We did not rent a car until we were leaving because we knew ahead of time there was NO parking anywhere near the apartments and anything we couldn't walk to - we took the bus. Highly recommend the "rambler" bus pass.

“perfect for short stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 July 2007

Stayed at Shaw Court Apartments for a birthday celebration and had a Great time.Apartment was spotlessly clean, lovely towels and sparkling bathroom.
Bus stop outside so getting in and out of town no problem but not too far to walk.
Obviously you dont go to Dublin to sit in your accommodation so these apartments are fantastic choice and great value for money.
Reccomend Zante Zoes for dinner and 'the Temple Bar' for live music

“Did the job”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 May 2007

A two bed apartment was booked for our group of 5 ladies on a hen do last weekend.
The apartment wasn't ready when we arrived, but then we were early so we left the bags at reception and went for lunch in the city. The walk into the city is okay during the day and when it is dry and if you are not planning a day shopping. If it is wet, dark or you've been shopping for 5 hours, get a taxi or the tram.
The apartment was clean, but it is not easy getting in with all the different codes to get in, especially since there was five of us and one set of keys/codes. In someways it was fortunate that the intruder alarm was completely defunct so at least we only had to remember the gate and main dor codes. Plus the cleaners invariable left the main door open so it reduced the codes down to the one! The decor is tired and lacks love, but haing stayed at the harcourt last year, I know this is just the general state of the place. Kitchen was good, and very clean, bathroom was large, but had rotten wooden skirting boards, broken shower hose, dings in the bath tub, toilet had a broken handle and the extractor fan didn't work which would explain the rotting wood in the bathroom because the hot water comes through at what feels like boiling point and creates a steam room experience complete with trecherous floor tiles. Oh and anyone that has to sleep on the futon in the living room, take some earplugs because the boiler and tank is soooo noisy and goes like the clappers whenever anyone in the apartment runs a tap or flushes the loo. TV was tiny too (14" screen in this day and age is ridiculous). Futon mattress was not the cleanest either and was very deflated..
Also, there was no information like you'd get in the main hotel (such as what to do in an emergency, fire evacuations etc) and we just had to guess the information we needed (like taxis etc.)
Final Gripe, the french doors are big, heavy and cumbersome and we really did not have faith being on the ground floor that they wouldn't keep out some burly man casually leaning in the right place from the outside.
Other than that, it did the job that we wanted it for, but I wouldn't use the apartments again.

me and my 6 feinds stayed in two appartments for 4 days in order to celebrate a 21st birthday party and it was the best place we could have asked for. for the price it was excellent and i would definatly pay more and stay there again. the appartment is very safe and conveniantly located its a 2min walk to the nearest shop in order to buy food etc although the ammentities the appartments come with are great, its a 20 min walk into Grafton street and Temple Bar but this walk is scenic and beautiful as you pass through St Stevnsons Green, what a brilliant place i honestly cannot wait to go again!!!!!!!!!!!!!

“Happy enough at the Shaw Court”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 April 2006

My husband, 3 kids and I stayed our first two nights in Dublin, 3/29 and 3/30, in a 2 bedroom apartment at the Shaw Court (we then stayed with family and went off to Co. Clare). It was very clean, had very comfortable beds and pillows, it was quiet while we were there and the radiators worked great (I was worried we'd be cold)! The washer/dryer worked well on the wash cycle, but the dryer didn't do so well (we used the radiators).

There were lots of windows so the apartment was anything but dreary, but as expected, it was sparsely decorated. There were only a few plates, a few glasses, the smallest tea cups you ever saw, a pan and a pot, an electric kettle, a toaster and some cooking utensils. A few tea bags, instant coffee packets and sugar packs were supplied, but nothing else. If you wanted to cook a meal, you'd need to buy everything but it could be done as the stove/oven were in nice shape.

We took a taxi to the hotel for check in, then had the taxi bring us around to the apartment. It's down a small lane, under an arch. I would advise against having a rental car in this part of Dublin as the parking is very, very limited. We didn't find the security gates/codes here to be a hassle like some other reviewrs did, we appreciated it and never felt uncomfortable here.

We chose Shaw Court because it was $100 night less expensive than other 2 bedroom apartments we considered. My husband is from Dublin, and went to school near Shaw Court, so he was very familiar with the area. We knew we were a bit out of the tourist area and didn't think we'd mind too much. But, while we don't think it was a mistake to stay here, we most likley would spend the extra $100/night next time just to be closer to Stephen's Green and Temple Bar. It was a little far with 3 small kids and major jet lag.
