“Quality in splendid surroundings”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

On a recent business trip to Dublin I chose to stay at the Radisson Blu. This hotel is located slightly outside of the main city centre set well back from the main road set in beautiful grounds with a very grand waterfall entrance. My room was very well appointed with a sitting area as well as a desk.

I used both the bar and room service menu options and the quality was very good. The fitness centre was adequate and open 24 hours.

“Comfortable but rather average.”

Stayed for one night for business trip. Summary, reasonable hotel.

Good things:
-Surroundings. Looks very nice outside.
-At in the restaurant and the food was great
-Easy to get to and parking no problem
-Letter from member of staff welcoming me.

Bad things:
- Rooms looked very dated. Dark.
-On a busy day this hotel would be quite nosy. Rooms did not seem to be sound insulated
-I was a solo traveler and was put in a room with two beds. I was working from the hotel and the extra space would have been appreciated
-Bathroom very bad for 4 star standard. Cracked + lose tiles. Grout peeling off... I've seen better fixtures and fittings in 3 star hotel.
-Easy to get lost. Take elevator from car park choose reception and you are faced with a choice of going left/right. The sign in front of you is not clear... Wandered and then found another sign

Yes I could have complained and I believe management would have accommodated me but really why should I have to? Cracked/lose tiles are very visible... It would take no time at all to carry out weekly spot checks on rooms and ensure that things like this are fixed.

“Lovely Hotel, Nice Rooms, disappointing loyalty scheme!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

Stayed two separate nights (Friday 27th and Monday 30th January). The standard room was a good size, nicely furnished and the beds very comfortable. Both rooms had a great view over the well maintained hotel garden. We did have an intermittent problem with the heating system - set to heat on high, there was only cool air blowing for over an hour. Eventually, the room started to heat. It was cold January weather, so the room really was very cold for some time.

Free internet access is provided in-room (in this case, a wired connection, but I believe wireless access is also available).

We ate on the Monday night in the hotel's Italian restaurant, Talavera. The meal was very enjoyable but not particularly special - overall it was decent value, and the wine was very good!

On checking into the hotel, I was invited to join the Radisson hotel group's 'Club Carlson' loyalty scheme. The scheme allows members to acquire points which can be used toward free nights at Radisson group hotels. Restaurant bills from the hotel restaurants can be used to acquire Club Carlson points, but hotel stays booked through 3rd parties do not qualify for points, and your restaurant bill can only be used to acquire points if it is part of a 'qualifying hotel stay'. I can understand 3rd party booking not qualifying for points, but it seems a bit mean spirited that a restaurant bill is excluded in this way.

The Radisson St Helen's is a bit out of the way for Dublin. We were travelling with a car so this wasn't an issue for us, but keep it in mind if you do not have your own transport! There is ample car parking at the hotel.

“Amazing Hotel. Amazing Amazing Amazing”

Myself and my boyfriend decided to stay in this hotel as we were recommended it by a friend who had stayed there previously. We were not disappointed. What we loved about this hotel was it's location. It was on the outskirts of Dublin with frequent buses outside it's door. Here we had the option of going into the city or out to the subarbs to see Dun Laoghaire also. We even rented a car for a day and went out to the Wicklow Mountains which was only about half an hour drive away. You get the best of both worlds with this hotel.
The hotel itself was super plush. It was so cosy. We stayed 3 nights. Breakfast was lovely. We'd lounge around on the couches too with the paper afterwards. It really was so relaxing. The staff were really helpful and lovely too. I would recommend this hotel to everyone. The view of the hotel looking up from the road is stunning. I am just waiting for my boyfriend to take me back!!

Room Tip: Try get a view overlooking the gardens at the back.

“Gorgeous hotel, slightly out of the way...”

Really loved this hotel - we had a weekend in Dublin and chose this one as it looked the most plush for the price - We weren't dissapointed - The room was lovely and the bed was so comfortable I could have stayed in it all weekend! I thought the room was really clean and luxurious with a nice springy feel carpet.
A stunning building with beautiful gardens.
Cooked buffet breakfast was great too (we didn't eat there in the evening as we were just b&b)
We caught the airport bus which stops literally outside the hotel- (the driver gave us a shout) and the stop for the return is opposite over the road - it takes around 30 minutes one way.
You can also get a variety of buses here into the city and back (just make sure you remember a landmark so you know when to stand up to get off!) A taxi cost us 15 euros on a Saturday night one way.
I suppose the only drawback was that it was a way out and you couldn't just walk into the city - but you just wouldn't get anywhere as nice as this for the price and the buses were fine, cheap and frequent
Would definitely stay here again!
