I stayed in Isaacs hotel for one night on Friday 9th of December.I traveled with my wife. We were also accompanied by my mother & her friend who wanted to do some last minute Christams shopping. I booked through the hotels own website & paid £40 per person, per night incl breakfast. Now time for the review!
Location: Isaacs is located directly across the road from Dublins main bus terminal. This means its really convenient. This also means you don't have to spend a small fortune getting Dublin taxi's which will burn a big hole in your spending money. The hotel is also a few minutes walk from the main shopping streets of Talbot, Henry & O'Connell. Just walk out the front door of the hotel, turn left, walk a few minutes, turn left again & your heading to all these streets. It also takes about 10 minutes to reach Grafton street with its posh shops.. There is a tram line which runs past the hotel but I dont know where it takes you as I never used it. There is also a train line which runs close by but I never seen or heard a train whilst there.
Staff: Staff where efficent. On arrival it took about 5 minutes to book in. Booking out was just as speedy & your bags will be kept securly until you are ready to depart. Check out is at 11am.
Breakfast: The breakfast is served in the hotels Italian restaurant. It consists of cereals, yougarts, fruit, juices & of course your full Irish breakfast. Staff were very attentive & the food was really nice. Great considering your in Dublin & its only £40 per person!
Rooms: Rooms are or acceptable size. We stayed in room 129 which was on the 1st floor. I did stay in this Hotel 10 yrs ago & although the rooms are clean they have become a little run down & the place could do with a revamp. The heating was great as Dublin was cold but you might need to tun it down at night. Tea & coffee making facilities in the room. Bed comfortable. There is also a safe in the room for your valuables.
Negatives: This hotel is part of Isaacs Hostel. In my honest opinion the whole place should be refared to as a hostel. The only thing making the "hotel" section stand out is a lobby with some cozy seats, fireplaces which are very homely. Bar this the place is just a hostel. The night we stayed there we never got a winks sleep. This was due to the paper thin walls & creeky floor boards in the rooms above us. It just means that shopping the next day was very tiring. Imagine staying two nights with no sleep! There is also a nightclub near by which plays dance music until about 3am, you can hear the bass quite loadly.
All in all this hotel (Hostel) is in a fab location, priced at fab value. If its a relaxing nights sleep you are after then its a gamble. I have heard people say the top floor is quite as a mouse. Maybe we were just unlucky. Don't rule this place out. Even though we didnt get much sleep I would return but it would be on the assurence that we get a top floor room.
Room Tip: I heard the top floor has the quitest rooms.
