“Average Hotel with AWFUL Restaurant Servers/Managers”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 February 2010

The hotel was fine.... not close enough to walk into the city which was annoyance number 1. Then on top of that, the front desk staff was not helpful when asked about recommendations for dinner out. When we did eat in the hotel restaurant, the staff was so rude and made it clear they did not want anyone actually in there because it meant they had to work. I was actually told to go buy tea because they didn't feel like getting it. My recommendation - spend a little more and stay somewhere else.

“a classy stay outside city centre”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2010

Myself and two friends searched and got a very good deal with this hotel, which was the same price as a local travelodge. Just a short bus journey from O'Connel St, on arrival we entered a large reception with chandeliers and mirrors, a lovely surprise for us girls on a short city break. Check in was very simple and the receptionist nothing but helpfull, whom gave us directions and later called a taxi. We had a triple room, which was very large, clean and had everything we needed, even with a view over nearby hills. We didn't have chance to eat at the hotel but the menu seemed lovely. When we return to Dublin i shall definatly want to stay here again.

“Montrose Hotel, definitely a good option”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2010

Accommodation in Dublin can be very expensive. It took me a while to find a nice affordable hotel, but I am glad I took my time for the search. Montrose Hotel is very well situated (only 15 min by bus from the city center (in a very nice area of Dublin), and on Stillorgan Road, so you have a bus almost every 10 minutes).
Room was spacious, clean and staff was very friendly and efficient. Only downside is that you have to pay for Wi-fi connection.
Anyway, I would definitely stay there again.

“Late Review”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2009

Stayed at the Montrose Hotel for 3 nights. The hotel is situated near RTE and the University
about 20 minutes bus ride to O'Connell St. The hotel suited us Ok. The staff in reception were not so friendly, they were polite.
The food was quiet nice, the head waiter who was originally from Donegal was very professional, friendly and well presented and helpful.
The only fault was the heat was on in the rooms all night, and became unberable warm, we pointed out this at reception, and it was sorted.

“Glad I didnt read reviews”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2009

I normally read trip advisor before staying anywhere, on this occasion I needed somewhere fast, affordable and near St.Vincents hospital. I have to honestly say.I wouldnt have given it at a chance based on previous reviews. I have stayed in many hotels in the past year and I really didnt find a fault with here.
For 89 euro in Dublin I arrived to a REALLY friendly welcome. I was cold, starving and booked last minute and couldnt say enough good about the staff.
My room was lovely and cosy and modern and the bar food was really nice.
I felt a bit paranoid sitting on my own in the bar and the staff were so chatty it was like staying with people I knew. The same goes for breakfast, it was obvious the staff have worked there for a long time and the woman who served me was exceptionally friendly.
My only fault would be that it was difficult to find the bus stop back into town but if you are not relying on public transport its easy to find.
I am surprised about the reports , maybe I just got a good room and nice staff or maybe things have changed. I would not hesitate in going back.
I have stayed in places more central with better decor but I never received the welcome I got there nor did I feel as at home and relaxed. So well done .
Its not the ritz but its not charging like some of the other places either.....
