“excellent position”

This hotel is ok if you do not have high expectations and you want to stay in the center of Dublin. Position is excellent, 2 minutes walking to O'connell street.
The price is ok, I paid 50 euro for a double room (shared bathroom), brakfast included. The bathroom was clean even if it was on a shared basis. I think i was the only one to use it...
The room was clean too, but it was very small and the wall were thin so i could listen people talking ot playing playstation in other rooms.
The breakfast was of poor quality, average quantity (continental breakfast).

“basic”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 June 2011

booked the pillar thru a b&b website main reason for choosing the pillar was location and availability.the staff were friendly, breakfast continental and bought to your room, rooms clean, bed comfortable these are the good points.there is no en suite available (which i new when booked),1 toilet on the top floor and 2 toilet/shower rooms on 3rd floor.
the hotel has a more backpackers feel and is advertised as basic in the hotel but not on the website i visited.

“a bit run down but clean,”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2009

the pillar used to be a reasonable B&B . Now it is a bit run down and could do with a bit of decorating . Think 1970s B&B .The rooms are small ,but all rooms have laminated floors ,a small wardrobe ,wash basin and central heating ..All the walls are painted magnolia but could do with a repaint .
This place has 13 rooms ,9 rooms at the front 3 at the back ,no double glazing .
7 single rooms ,
2 double rooms
2 twin rooms and 2 family rooms .
It is advertised as a hostle ,but the sign outside says B&B .
Whatever room you get you will NOT be sharing with anyone else .
The price varies depending on when you stay and where you book .
I booked by phone ,I was told it was 30 euro for one night ,but when I arrived it was actually 25 euro for that night ,some websites quote 40 euro .
I was given room 8 .It had a double bed and a single bed .there are no bunk beds here so if you book a room for 3 or 4 expect double beds .
The beds are old but comfortable with clean beding .

On the first floor is a reception / computer area / kitchen all one room .
This floor has rooms 1,2&3 all at the front .No toilet or shower on this floor .

Second floor has rooms rooms 4,5,6 at the front ,room 7 at the back .There are two shower rooms with toilet and wash basin .

Third floor ,rooms 8,9&10 at the front rooms 11& 12 at the back room 31 ( not 13) is between room 10 and 12 and has a sky light . ( it used to be the airing cupboard )
This floor has 1 toilet and wash basin ,no shower . Every floor has a fire escape .
The carpets on the stairs look clean and in good condition .I didnt have breakfast ,but it is brought to your room between 8 and 10 am at a time of your choice .
(no dining room )But remember if you want 10 am and your neightbour wants 8 am you will hear the staff knocking the door at 8 am.The walls in the room are a bit thin and the beds are next to the wall so you will hear other people turning in bed .
