“A rainy stay in Donegal!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2011

This hostel wasn't bad but we definitely stayed at better during our trip in Ireland. We found that the kitchen smelled a bit, and we felt the shared areas such as kitchen and bathrooms could have been cleaner. Our bedroom was fine, as were the other rooms we saw, so no problems as far as that is concerned, although we wondered whether the room we stayed in could be layed out a little better! We had a four bed female dorm, with two bunk beds - however the roof slants in on one side, and one of the top bunks lies underneath that, which means that the person sleeping on this bunk cannot sit up at all! As that person was me I ended up moving the mattress onto the floor and sleeping there (plenty of room to do this - so quite spacious really). The only other very minor point I would make is a suggestion to put a mirror in the female dorm - a little bit of a vain request in a hostel perhaps but as the mirrors were in the shared bathrooms, if any of us wanted to use a mirror we would have to do it there (we just thought it might help free up space in the communal bathrooms in the mornings - perhaps we should have suggested this to the owner at the time!)
Maybe our stay here was tainted by the rainy weather, but the positive side is that the owner Linda is lovely, really friendly and helpful, and the location is good, a short 5 minute walk from Donegal town.

“Amazing hospitality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 April 2011

We spent only a night in the hostel and unfortunately didn't meet the owner itself, but her daughters were helping out there and we had the most amazing experience ever. They where really kind to us and helpful. I cannot say a bad word about them.
The place is clean and nice. They had a real fire place which was lit when we were there, so it just set our mood for the night. :)
The rooms were tidy and cosy. We had a good night sleep which was really important as we were walking.
All an all, we had a great experience and would recommend to anyone.

“wonderful hosts, good amenities, medium sized hostel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 July 2009

linda, andy, and their daughter laura are very friendly, helpful and welcoming. their rooms are clean and functional. it's located quite conveniently if travelling by car, but a short hike if hoofing it. it's not the largest hostel i've ever been in, but it's a fair size, and when a full house is up, it gets rocking, late into the night

“Linda is the best!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 April 2009

This place has to be one of the best hostels in Ireland. Located about 1km out of town, its an way walk to the pubs in the towns diamond. Linda the owner is incredible. So helpful and so friendly. She advised us on the best places to go and made sure that solo travellers were introduced and included in proceedings. Not something that would happen at the bigger hostels. Clean and comfortable rooms and a few showers which were clean and had plenty of hot water. A great place to stay.

“Warm welcome and cosy atmosphere - will come back for sure.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 April 2009

When my best friend came over to visit me we decided to go to my favourite place in the North of Ireland: Donegal Town. We arrived at Donegal Town Independent Hostel and a warm welcome awaited us.
Blue sky in the dorms, a fully equipped kitchen, hot showers, a big sitting room with open real fire, and a giant collection of postcards being sent by former visitors make this hostel a unique place for travellers.
Perfect location - not too far away from the town centre and directly situated on the Killybegs Road (ideal for hitchhikers and people going to Slieve League) and great value for the money!
Whenever you come to the North West of Ireland - enjoy your stay in Donegal Town!
