“Quality B&B next to University”

There maybe cheaper B&Bs along the "main drag" stretching from UCC to the town centre but Fernroyd is definately worth an enquiry. This is a quality B&B ran by a charming couple that represents good value. Little touches, such as the (oft-remarked on) homemade scones, wine fridge in room & flexability over breakfast times add up. Was offered a room with a more extensive range of TV channels than terrestrial: didn't bother me, but ask if important. Much enjoyed.

“Great experience”

Far and away the best place I have stayed in Europe. The accommodations were homey and inviting and the property was an easy to walk to town or the university (Beautiful). This was my first B&B so I had no idea what to expect but things were great. It was like staying with family... Avril and Tony were fantastic hosts. They gave us directions to their home when we got lost and pointed us towards all of our day trips which was invaluable. They even called a few restaurants to check hours of service for us. Plus their advice sent us to the Rock of Cashel which was my sisters favorite thing in Ireland and something we had no plans of visiting beforehand. Wish the stay could have been there longer.

“Lovely place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

Excellent B&B. The hosts always make an extra effort to accommodate you. Extra duvet - no problem. A map of Cork - here you go. Would you like more scones? Rooms have a kettle and even a mini fridge. Free WiFi. All what we needed.
Rooms are clean, nice and comfortable. The location is very good. Most B&Bs in this area are on the main Western Rd, so, despite all the claims, the traffic does wake you up early. This B&B is in a cul-de-sac, a few houses off the road, and this makes huge difference in terms of quality of sleep. And it's just 15 mins of casual walk to the city centre.

“The Best BnB Ever!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

My parents & I stayed at Fernroyd house for 9 nights in September, exploring Cork & taking day trips to see the surrounding area (Blarney, Cobh, Midleton, Kilkenny & Ring of Kerry). We stayed in the "family" room in the Annex. The room was huge--perfect for 3 adults! We also really appreciated the "day room" (kitchen/dining/living room) and used it several nights for dining in-house. Really nice garden area off the lounge & huge TV. The quiet location near the college is a surprise, considering how close you are to town. The nearby bus line was nice, but most of the time it was quicker to walk than to wait for the bus, you're THAT close to town. Tony & Avril were the most gracious hosts, sharing lots of tips--where to eat (Scott's Pub, Strausbourg Goose, Il Padrino), what to see/do (Annual Midleton Food & Drink Festival, The English Market, Arundo at Counihan's Pub), how to get there (foot, bus, train). Tony shared maps & gave us great directions; Avril's wonderful cooking jump started each day & was a real treat. Most days, we didn't even stop for lunch! If you are going to be in Cork, Fernroyd House is the BEST place to stay!
