“Basic accommodation for the price”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 May 2011

The staff at the Commons Inn are great. They are enthusiastic, friendly and helpful. They deserve better. They have to work in a 'hotel', on which the owners clearly don't feel the need to spend money.

There are good reasons why this establishment is not registered with any externally accrediting tourist body.

When we were there for just one night for a business meeting, the reception staff had to admit every guest to their rooms each time as the key machine had been broken for several days and had been sent away to Italy!

The room carpets felt unclean and the tiled public areas smelled of disinfectant. Unwatchable TV reception, a hole in the plastic bathroom wall (yes the bathroom walls are made of plastic) and a spider crack in the loosely fitted hand basin in the bathroom. Everything was very clean, so the housekeeping staff (also very pleasant) clearly thoroughly clean the shoddily- fitted rooms to their best ability.

Cracked glazing in the doors on the way to breakfast, where the toaster was broken. The waiter upon being asked, did get chef to toast some bread 'old style'.
Again, no problems with food or service. On a side note, my vegetarian colleague asked for no sausage or bacon or meat on her breakfast. It arrived meat free apart from the black and white pudding. Fortunately she saw the funny side.

It's a motel, which isn't particularly good value for a business overnight stay and with the owners spending no money on it, anyone looking for a holiday hotel, would be disappointed.

The service from the EXCELLENT STAFF save the owners from a more formal complaint.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back, away from the road.

“Not very happy”

I stayed at the Commons Inn for a bit less than a month on Business. The bathroom had mold on the corner where the wall meets the roof. I was staying with one other person, but we never got both our swipe keys to work at the same time. The people at the front desk gave me the same excuse for 3 weeks and never got it fixed.

Certainly if you are looking for refinement, luxury and warm customer service, you are better off with one of these....

“Basic room, quality is similar to motel 6 in the states”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 June 2010

Room reeked of stale cigarettes. Was a good value though, 60 euro with hot breakfast. Parking was plentiful, staff was friendly.

“Good Stay!”

Don't go into this with high expectations after all its a small Inn, located at the side of the main road about 15 mins walk from cork city centre. For €60 we got a spacious, ensuite, clean room with two double beds, Tea/Coffee making facilities, Hair Dryer. The Bar is old fashioned but busy. You are required to pay on arrival which doesnt always leave a good impression.
If your looking for clean, cheap accommodation this place is perfect.
